i am staying in kelana jaya parkview condo, 7th floor & i've just started working and I want to apply for broadband. *life is boring without internet, since i'm so used to using it everyday when i was in campus. tongue.gif*

now my problem is this, should I get maxis broadband or streamyx?

dunno which to choose.

streamyx is sucky (using this previously) since it LOVES to go down for no apparent reason and requires a phone line and will take approx 2 weeks or longer (not sure bout this) to settle both the phone line n streamyx line. and it requires a 1 year contract, although it did mention it did mention tat i can transfer my streamyx line to other areas (if i ever move) IF empty ports are still available and if streamyx is available or not at that area.

i saw the metrofon advertisement at the condo, so was wondering izzit good or not. i've read thru some threads and got mixed responses. >_< i saw got user say the speed is quite good and is better than streamyx and of course cheaper, but some say it sucks and things like that. dunno is this becuz of different area different speed or other reasons. does it block BT or not? cuz i download alot of BT stuff ..and also if i do direct download wud it be slow? i dun mind a wee bit slower in browsing sites n stuff but i'm very particular with download speed tongue.gif

anyone can advise me which one to apply for??? or give me more info?

ur opinions are highly appreciated. thanks! smile.gif

Before giving comments on which to go for, first of all what will you be using the broadband connection for ? Are you an online gamer (if yes that what kind of games do you play online ?) ? One conclusion that can be made now is that many people are quite happy with Maxis Broadband but they too have some unexpected downtime and some of them even experienced almost one day of downtime. On the other hand, Streamyx might not be a good broadband connection but I still dare to say that for most applications like online gaming, Streamyx is still on top of the other ISPs.

if not mistaken... streamyx do offer a package where it comes with a phone line only for broadband, no telephone hence no monthly fee.

r u referring to maxis wireless broadband??
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/612720

maxis limit the usage of broadband by introducing the policy 'fair usage'... i think 3GB per month only

nod.gif streamyx do occasionally perform slow... but maxis even worse!! doh.gif

As I see that you have a main concern on downloading, I suggest your best bet is to go for Streamyx still. If you want to know why Streamyx is still better than Maxis wireless broadband, read some of the comments here, read some of the latest comments and you'll see that quite a number of them are having various problems with their Maxis connection.

thanks yeah~
at least i get a clearer picture now...
maxis center ppl told me saying their broadband is stable n stuff tongue.gif
still better to get user reviews first, more trustable

Yes this is true, I have been told before that the signal isn't good as you go higher (2 floors up should be good) but if I remembered correctly higher than 5 floors will have a drop in performance.

I don't know it is true or not, just last time I went to PCFair time, I asked about the Maxis wireless, the salesperson told me, if you live more than 8 floors or 10 floors above, she said can't use the one modem like router one (lower price packages one).

U rite, sometime sales person want good sales ($$$$$) then just promote benefit and hide disadvantages. But if u never try, then u ever noe whether it's a fact or not. Now, i'm using da big maxis modem RM68 at 19th floor kajang and get HSDPA signal. N we can forgot about 3gb, cos rite now i download more than 10 gb and seen nothing happen to me from maxis. Anyhow i switching to USB maxis modem due to smallerrrr size. Just simple, if u wanna something then must be action, then u will get the result. Good luck!!!!

I think anyone of us can suggest to you on which broadband service you should settle down with but there is no confirmation that our suggestion will lead a satisfying result. However, I do believe you can get a "near-to-absolute" answer regarding which broadband service between the two that you should go for and that is by simply asking around the tenants at your condo. No doubt this involve some work and walking but at least, you wil get a better view and respond (or reaction) from the tenants whenever you bring up broadband service. This should be able to paint a clearer picture to you and help in deciding which of the two that you will register for.
Just a suggestion for your situation.

should read this thread:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/594216

go judge yourself what is the user complain and how they handle complain.
http://forum.penangfon.com/

most of the user only getting ~30kB/s for P2P and yes, downloading with free Rapidshare account will have big issue.
