75Ohm is for Digital signal use, as in Digital Coax. Can also be used for Video Signal, hence component cables are also 75Ohm.

Open the DAC and check internally if anything loose wiring or shorted parts.

Try to use the DAC with different power source.

u may have DC in the AC supply to the zero DAC .


also try to use test pen to check all the component casing, see if the light on test pen is on.

^ i get the slight vibration too i got the humming once and i switched it off, after that it never happen again, i suspect the tranny, but i havent test it from another power source.

ive NEVER gotten the vibrations...

someone has suggested some ways to fix the tranny problem. hope u are reading it too at the head-fi

Remove the top case - 6 screws.
Remove the bolt running through the centre of the transformer.
Lift transformer out of chassis.
Fit small piece of insulating foam.
Rebuild.

Hi guys, sorry for inactive for few days, been outstation to somewhere remote without line coverage and internet connection at all!

RAV4: I think u may try all solutions provided by chua, if the humming is caused by the tranny, one of the solution may helps! again thanks chua for his dedication!

Anyway a piece of news for you guys, the discrete opamp will be sending out today, takes around 3days to reach Malaysia and dunno how many days to clear kastam! and the converters is currently stuck at Kastam there since quite heavy load of importing at port klang, maybe due to Merdeka Celebration! Anyway will update you guys with latest news, stay tuned!

Think of it this way. The one opamp at the 3'o clock position is the DAC opamp. It amplify the signal and gives the output to the preamp (RCA) and also the headphone amp. Headphone opamp is near the jack and they are 2 of them (stock is NE 5532).

If u change DAC opamp, it will affect the sound at both the RCA and headphone amp. If u change the headphone opamp, it will only affect headphone sound (not affect RCA).

So far, some has said the OPA Earth / Sun at the headphone has produced good results.

so just need to change the DAC op-amp .

If you use the preamp mode, wouldn't the headphone opamp also affect the sound?

depends wut brand n quality ..... if MIT is abt RM 120 , black rhodium factory termination is RM 200 + , cardas abt RM 450 factory termination
if canare abt RM 60 - 70 depends on the plug

There's some humming sound come out from my zero dac when switch on only, the sound were not very loud only if i put my ear near the amp. Is that ok?

Same problem with mine. It should work fine but any humming would affect the sound quality, IMO. I'll open it up over weekend to see if can fix it as per ccschua's suggestions.

I'm not sure affect sq but will try the suggestion.

I also feel Zero + 627 is dry (i burn in <8 hrs) sound is too clean for me. Slightly fake, maybe its too digital feel. (more clean & digital makes it feel more dynamic??) Maybe need further burn-n. Only good thing is soundstage wider and better resolution
Not suitable for my classical music. Maybe i feel that clean = not musical, less involving.
Hope HDAM-EARTH is more musical.

Well I have 1 OPA Sun if u want can borrow and test. That will give you better dynamics, more forward vocal and clean.

Trust me, ZERO with OPA will give you a run of your money.

ermm not a easy job to mod the Zero still studying n dunno start from where. plan to get EARTH or SUN for my CD-Player but still under warranty soo du want to risk it

ermm opa627 character wut u say almost same as mine ermm dry i listen that time not very dry different setup come out different sound the 627 is sound clean n abit digital but the bass are good fast n punch i duno y i try few Bur Brown also like that dry sounding only the opa2604 abit better but too laid back music is not alive

I also got one 150watts per channel power amp made by China ( Assembled for Malaysia company ), about 15kg.

Not bad, it costs me about rm 500 as secondhand. Can drive very big speakers, best suited for AV, but I use for 2 channels HIFI in the hall, driving 4 speakers at a time.

this is Onkyo TX-SR805 wut i listen the Marantz SR (AV) sound better for 2 channel (hifi) the onkyo i found sound quite full and neutral, detail also quite nice i just plug n play didnt use any T/A if compare to Marantz SR8002 marantz are sound better abit warm

Time to get a line conditioner ? sometimes the line conditioner comes with those sockets that is universal which is very useful.

ermm i tested use for integrated amp not soo good sound abit thin i think for ur tube amp is not bad sound will is more smoother i know one shop can get less than RM 400 same like last time i use

I guess u have missed the free 1 to 1 promo. But u can talk some of the forumer here who might sell u a opa earth or sun. that would be hassle free.

I ordered the samples twice. The 1st time it took really long, easily 1 month plus. But the 2nd time was much faster, a week or so. Maybe you should wait for a week or two.

Humming = frequency = noise. The fact that it's coming from the unit itself will surely affect SQ. If you understand the basics of a DAC, you will know that it operates at low voltage, which means it is highly sensitive to noise. That's why there are quite a number of DACs that are designed with an external transformer to keep the high AC current away from the low DC current part of the DAC. Some even use batteries to totally separate the AC link for totally clean current.

so is yr humming problem still around. Suggest u grab a multimeter and start poking around.

BTW, I've opened up my Zero to check for loose parts. All tight. I noticed that the transformer has a rubber mat at the bottom too so I doubt a foam will make any difference. I'm wondering what else I can do to isolate the humming...

ccschua, yup. Earthing is fine so no leakage. What should i be looking for with a multimeter?

i got the zero dac recently but i coulnt get any music playing ?
it is connected to my laptop by using spdif output but it doesnt give me any audio?
i switch on the coaxial and pre amp as well but still....

Doubt it's coz of that coz it's plugged through an audio line conditioner now. Before that, it was only sharing with DVD player. I'm quite tempted to use a battery to test it out but have to check what's the DC coming out from the transformer.

Use the multimeter, check the tightening screw with the earth wire.

Check the cdp casing to earth.

What is your incoming voltage ? 240V
