Wah... ccschua have not even posted his review and you've started your bulk? But buy 1 free 1 is very tempting indeed. This discrete opamp is similar with the HDAM right? Meaning the cover can't be closed after installing it? Maybe ccschua can share on that?

First impression I must say very long lasting. I have found the sound that I miss. The earth sounds so natural and crisp clear. The separation is very good when I play the chinese high impact drums. The vocal is so natural and the singer sibilance (like the Sssst, Ssssh) is gone. This is what I am looking for. It is so much better than the OPA 627, way much better.

chua pmed me alreadylaa.according to him this opamp better than (very different or vry keng) than 627.just go and order/buy because i used to have opamp627 and played it with marantz cd 5001, then with marantz cd 6002.with marantz cd 5001, can beat stock marantz 6002 maa.with marantz 6002 almost on par with marantz ki sig.....these results based on my ears only.sold back that zero dac with opamp627 to chua because i'm using rega apollo right now
for starter just get any used cdp and then use zero dac with any opamp that you like..... this combination will be very good if you aare on budget.
for me zero dac with any cdp or dvd player (rm 1500 and below) will be a perfect combination. for some thing mid to high end, i believe those cdp already got good built in dac.my opinion only

for metal, may be the OPA-Sun is better. OPA-Sun is more dynamics and fast tempo response whereas earth is more neutral and natural. there is a gain on musicality vs OPA 627.

Just received two LT1364 OPAMPs from Farnell, replace it immediately with the two NE5532 OPAMPs, wow, now the Zero DAC sound is what I wanted, the difference is obvious then replacing the OPA627 for the OPA2604. now the vocal is thicker, can listen more detail, sound stage also wider, overall is more harmony, it is very worth to replace the two cheap NE5532.

Previously when I changed to the Zero, even changing the OPA627, the sound was still not as good as my previous DIY AD1853 DAC, now, the LT1364 make it on par with my previous DAC.

My next move will use my old DAC caps such as OS-CON, WIMA to replace the Zero DAC caps. I'm also thinking is it possible to upgrade the power CAP 2200uF to 4400uF.

Discrete opamp is similar to HDAM. The HDAM is copyrighted by Burson, so the designer come out with new toy at a fraction of the price.

Initial Impression of OPA Sun


Just spend some time listening to the OPA Sun. Initial impression again is wide soundstage offer by this discrete opamp.

Actuall to tell the difference between Sun and Earth is minor. It is more dynamic, slightly deeper bass and controlled mid mid bass. Soprano on treble is also polished less the Sssst. Instrument accuracy is good and imaging is accurate. On gypsy high rhtymic songs, the complex passage is handled with good resolution. Noise floor is suprisingly low, i.e. at total silence. OPA Sun detailing of instrument is impressive, yet polish at the edges of vocal.

all things good, the slight drawback on OPA Sun, I mean being honest is the tonality and vocal. It is not so empasized as compared to compared to Earth.

Good choice. This is a good products. When I listen to Chinese Audiophile CD, some track has high treble (that cut yr ears) or harsh. With this opamp earth or sun, u can play it loud, hear the amount of detail like never before and with great accuracy and best of all not harsh. Why is it so, the key lies in the distortion level.

I was poison by the Chinese designer, he won the first prize in audio design, China. and he is young.

Who wants to share? I think I'll be getting the more neutral Earth. Any takers for the Sun?

i don't know that we do have earth,sun,lamb and tiger in hifi.
btw, zero dac is really good for some one who does not want to go for high end cd player.
chua, i like to try your zero dac with my denon 1940 cd player.we can hook it up to my unison research unico amp and see how it perfor compare to rega apollo. rm 2000 source vs rm 3200 source.

This DAC + Op-amp/sun/earth can pawn a sub RM1k or Rm2k player?

The Zero + OPA627 + Marantz CD5100 (rm800) is better than the Marantz 6200 which costs about rm1600. Check out gatevalve's review a few pages back.

ccschua's initial review of the OPAMP Earth is much better than OPA627 and this is before proper burn-in too so perhaps it's reaching 2k level CDP for relatively little RM.

I just connect the earth wire to one of the headphone pcb hold down screw since the whole casing is earth/GND. with GND connection, it should sound minor different.
