I m having a situation here. I m a last semester student at a public univ. My friends and I are planning to apply for streamyx and share the cost since the in-campus Net speed is terrible..

However since we are all going to be here for only like 5 months, I am wondering if there is some way to use the service and terminate it prematurely without having to pay for the remaining months? Is there such thing like a supplymentary line in Streamyx? What I mean is, can I apply for a line under my uncle's name which already has a Streamyx account at his home and use it at another premise i.e my college residence for example? So that by doing so I can use it for less than 12 months?

I appreciate ur answers before I go and see the reseller.

Where do u stay?in campus or out campus?

In campus...More specifically, UUM in Sintok, Kedah...So far, the management office has no problems in letting the student install a phone line and use Streamyx in their room.

So is there a workaround for my situation?

I dont think there is any solution for your matter.. All i know all products have a minimum subscription period of 1 year only. However you can try prepaid?

if your area got izzi coverage then go ahead .. i think you can cancel it and refund some cash

If I'm not mistaken, all wired broadband service requires the subscription of a year before the termination option is available except for those prepaid packages. I would suggest that you call up TMNet and inquire them about the transparency of the refund process or termination process and also do you research on broadband threads, just so you will get the real picture of termination process experienced by other broadband subscribers.

As far as I know, if you terminate earlier than your contract period, for example :

If your contract is 1 year and you use for only 6 months, on your termination you will have to pay the monthly fee for the remaining 6 months.

Telekom Malaysia contract 1 year & TMnet Streamyx contract 1 year.

Let's talk about TMnet Streamyx
Streamyx not same like the Dial-up a/c. Dial-up register in JB, can be used anywhere in malaysia* as long the land line is working. Streamyx(ADSL) need to be jumper to be used.

you still need to apply Streamyx register under yr campus landlines 04-7880xxxx number. They will jumper land line with ADSL function.

option 1.
register normal package RM88 1024K/384K for campus(04-7880xxxx)
by the end of the 5th months, you can transfer the Streamyx back to yr hometown 03-7880xxxx, but make sure the Streamyx is available. If no then you had to paid for the remain 6-7 months = RM616 e.a

option 2.
both yr house & campus apply streamyx
house apply for 1024K384K (RM88) & Campus apply 384K/128K (RM20).
by the end of 5th month. paid up 6-7 months fined = RM140 e.a
there is risk involved here. yr campus(04-7880xxxx) ADSL max sync lower than 1024K/384K
if you luck TMnet*sleeping 1 set default all 1024K/384K. if they hardworking type 512K/256K or 384K/128K

option 3.
apply for the RM20 for campus. login yr modem check the ADSL max/sync. if you be getting 1024K/384K. then from here you decide worth taking the risk(option 2) or not.
but remember you can only upgrade after 3 month usage. and you are stuck 384K/128K for 3 month at least & 10 hours access.

*normal package you can upgrade&downgrade after 3 months usage. Promotion only allow upgrade only. please double-check
*RM20 package 384K/128K with 10 hours limited
*RM88 package 1024L/384K unlimited usage.
*RM45 package 384K/128K unlimited usage*** if still exits

For the Telekom Malaysia
the land line, if you lucky get the promotion 2nd line. then the rental fees is RM1-10 only per month. wish you luck.
if your univ is a apartment & nice neighbor staying for another year. maybe u try buy them a drink register 2nd line under he/she name.
then pull the phone cable. if not far ... haha
or just paid the remaining 6-7 months termination fees e.a 1 month = RM24-28
RM196 for 7 month

Thing you should ask TMnet & Telekom Malaysia aka TM.
If transfer Streamyx a/c within the contract period of 3-6 months usage allowed & yr house phone have streamyx available. then recommend option 1, but there is always a risk "port full, when you do the transfer Kedah to home"
quote the termination streamyx(TMnet) & land line™ processing & fine = 7 months.
