Ok, so i got my psp. a very old one. and decided im gonna try to upgrade and use it again.
Here's some info about the psp: Fat psp, version 2.71(its says in the system info), and im not sure if it has custom firmware.
Q: how can i update this to the latest firmware? (bear in mind that im a total noob at this, but willing to learn)

U wanna update 2 the latest firmware or custom firmware?? If its written 2.71 only nothing behind it then its official firmware.

Is PSP graphic greater,less or same as PS2 graphic?

If u r updating from a official firmware to a custom firmware u need a pandora battery 2 do it. Custom firmware is the same as official but its only unlock all the features of the psp such as access the flash0 n stuff and can play download games while official cant.

Hi, since this is a PSP for beginners thread, i'd like to ask psp gamers here about my problem.

First of all, i dont really know much about PSP. Yesterday i was messing around with the wireless setting to get the psp wireless work in my house. Suddenly i dun know what happened, i cant play the games anymore. Any idea why?
While i was messing around with the wireless setting, i noticed that the psp automatically downloading something from the net. I think it was downloading the latest firmware or something for the psp. Is this the cause why i can no longer play games from the memory card? If yes then how can i reverse back the process? Do u guys know any shops in KL that can fix this and how much is the cost?

yes, apparently you just updated into an official firmware. only way to play ahem2 games is to reflash it into a custom firmware. you can google for the guide or if you're lazy ( ) you can backtrack and search within payboy21 post about custom firmware flashing.
there's also a psp modding thread in this section too. firmware info included.

or, you can just flash it at a game shop. most psp selling gameshop offer this service. price?. well, that depends where you are. some charge 30, some 80. pray for your luck.

put an ahem2 game in there, try play. no need to ask here.

1) never heard of psp tuning LCD thingy... I bought mine 1 year ago, never went to shop for tuning purpose at all (suddenly feel that psp like a tuning car )

2) If you read the manual, it already show that the package provided with original battery, unless that shop try to con you though.
Usually the original last that long, but that depend on what kind of game play though, heavy game such as grand theft auto really drain the juice.

3) That one not sure, since its been a while I when to game shop though

Bought mine at bernard Gamer Solution, No problem at all though.. I suggest you go there also (try to bring friend who have psp along, might could help you a bit in buying)

first of, there is no such thing as tuning the psp. no one had ever been tuning it or anything. ask anyone here. there are many ways to cheat the customers, that shop is just dirty. post up the name and location so i can send someone to burn it down.

second, there are sellers who sell psp with fake batteries. the original ones are a lot more expensive so they took out the battery and replace them with chapalang ones. they sell the battery for their original price.

the God of War one?. recon, i dont think so, but cracked one yes. there are selling. but most probably the price will be slightly higher. limited edition.

Added on October 5, 2008, 3:59 pmwell for me, i installed some homebrew apps to write .txt files. though i cant update my blog on the fly, i can write them. pretty convenient i must say as i can describe things detailed.
other than that, for phat psp, you can find homebrew to turn your psp into a universal remote.

1.LOL he cheating u badly,tuning the brightness of PSP just using a small button at PSP there...LOL!

2.Original battery depends what are u using for.Normally if just put it at standard mode,the battery information will show u about 6 hours+,thats for original battery 1200mah,if 5 hours,i think thats fake battery.

3.Maybe they will cheat u by using GOW aluminum case & said its limited edition God Of War.Becareful.

yup2. its a homebrew program called PSPWrite. you can google for it, very plentiful in the internet.

and, to unhide it you can plug it into the pc, and view hidden files from the folder options. then right click on that folder and un-tick the hidden file checkbox. it should appear as a normal folder then.

Do we need to do any configuration to enable internet browsing? tried for the 1st time yesterday via wi-fi but unsuccesful. thanks for helping.

try setting under network, maybe coz wrong password/ low signal/ internet problem ?

keep everything stock first. dont change any settings or anything. just try to connect automatically.
try with multiple wifi spots. the psp doesnt support some wifi routers.

but if the problem persists, then post again here, with the error code.

hmm.... i still havent find interest in psp function apart from playing games
as media player, mp3 , ok can last for more than 8 hours , fine,

tried remotejoy, it doesnt produce sound on the pc ? or izzit i because i use lite ver ?

and the stick cannot be used in my psp,it just won't lekat,sure come out from the psp

psp 3000 or ndsi??which one will be your choice??

if already own a psp, then nds is the choice. for a newcomer, psp. but that is, if you're willing to pay for original games only.

psp price: estimated +-RM800
RM150X5= RM750

after 5 games, you can buy another psp already. so, not that hard of a choice isnt it?.

i bet the quality build of the psp 3000 sucks tho

but i thought the camera quality is great?. have you seen the actual shots of the camera?. the 1.3Mpix is true u know. not like a regular camera or cameraphone's camera that enlarges the image to 3mpix, 4mpix etc etc.
try looking up for some shots of the camera. sucky night mode though. too much noise.

i have both phat n slim, comparing both, slim i use for 1-2 week only the memory stick cover & power/hold button already loose/longgar

Yes, i have personally tested the ChottoShot and the quality amaze me for a 1.3MP camera. Very good indeed for a 1.3MP camera.

if i got money, i wont be stuck with my psp only.
might go all the way for ps3 or maybe a game docking station. u know, that table with chair and all the controllers and steering wheel+pedals included.
i play most of the games on pc though, not much of a console fan. u cant upgrade consoles, they keep coming out better instead of just small upgrade parts. that renders the past ones totally (or almost) obsolete.

had a ps. n at that time, need for speed 2 looks like super realistic. now, i look at GRID and keeps noticing the subtle graphics mistakes.
too much gaming.

No point going for PSP1000 anymore. Doubt you can find new one in the market anyway. Go for the PSP2000 or if you can wait and willing to wait for Custom Firmware, go for the PSP3000.
