Hi,

Unlike most of you here, I'm not really a photography enthusiast. Well not yet at least. I'm just looking to buy my first camera to take with me when I go overseas in about a month. It's for taking photos for my own memory and to show the family.
I want something that is easy to use, decent resolution, not too heavy, nice design.... Well basically just a nice good camera that is easy to use for a noob like me
My price range is within 1k-1.5k.

Any suggestions?

Canon Ixus 860 IS

Since he is not enthusiast, and want small, isn't camera phone the best?
its not only small, its nothing at all since u bring phone and no need to
bring camera. second good thing is, u will bring anywhere

Last check, Canon Ixus 860 IS was RM1,499. But this price was from Canon shop. You could get it cheaper from outside with few free goodies

Well, RM1k got more than enough.

Since you know nothing about digital camera, any will give you good result.

Just choose 1 that you think look good.

In term of sensors, most of the compact camera are using the came sensor from Sony.

So, nothing to shout about.

For compact, I'd go with Canon. If more cash, may be go Sony. Sony tends to have more add on features like touch screen and what not which does not add value to the quality of the picture but more like a gadget.

My experience with Olympus (miu 400, 770SW, E500), you will always have something to complain.

So... choose the one u like... when holding it and the color it produces that you like.

Panasonic Lumix TZ3

The best point and shoot camera around....

Cost about 1.5k

panasonic lumix DMC-FX33 if u want a slimmer solution than TZ3, sacrificing some features.

I tot u can get that cam around Rm1,200 ++ ?? im not so sure.. you can check some online trading in this forum =)

I would suggest u to go for Canon Ixus 75. Bout RM 1k only

can try for FX33...i just brought it few days ago at price rm11xx..

it meets most of ur requirement...somemore it has AI = intelligent auto mode for ur type of user who not really need any manual mode..

and with mega OIS to reduce blurrness...28mm wide angle + a 2.5" LCD screen.

TZ3's got wide angle but less manual controls. Decide on what kinda features you want first lar.

for that budget 1k to 1.5k....which is very good budget....

can look at Canon S5, Nikon P5100....Panasonic Lumix....most of the series are great PnS

isnt S5 is a prosumer? IF u want cute and handy camera.. go for sony T2 lor... not bad.. my gf bought one.. and actually played with it. =)
