sorry for the noob question, what's actually a component set? how does it differ with the 6X9" 3/4/5 ways speaker?
i'm planning to replace the stock rear speaker for my wira, using Pioneer 2950 HU, in my case, which would be more suitable?
currently looking at the boschmann component set and pioneer A6982E 6X9, both priced around the same.

good question...i'm not 100% sure of the answers...but here you go...

1. Component set
This is a set of speakers + passive crossover provided. Usually it's 2-way component set, means you have a tweeter and a midbass driver, and those two speakers are connected to a passive crossover. The passive crossover is used to channel certain frequency length to both the midbass and tweeter. Eg. 2kHz and above freq goes to tweeter while 2Khz and below goes to midbass driver

2. 6x9 speaker
I have heard of 3-way, 4-way and 5-way as well... but let me explain what i know for the 3-way... for a normal 3-way 6x9 speaker, you have the basic 6x9 driver or woofer, then in the middle of the speaker, you usually see small protruding item and those are actually tweeter. In this case for 3-way, you have tweeter and supertweeter... haha... So that's why you have 3-way. And this 6x9 speaker have built in crossover as well.

i think the main difference here between the two speakers is how you want to mount ur speakers... 6x9 will be way too big to be mounted in front part of the car... so 6x9 is usually mounted at the back portion of the car.... nowadays, we love to hear the sound coming from front, as if the person is singing right in front of you, hence, that's why i believe component set is being made...you can mount the tweeter on top of the dashbaord and then put the midbass driver at the door panel...

as for sound quality....i have not heard of a good sound quality from 6x9 before but probably i've not heard the high end range as well...so i'll leave it to you to test on ur own which one sounds better... hehe...

hope this helps...

In home speakers, i do know that the crossover makes the most difference. The 3 way seems superior on paper because it covers more spectrum, but in reality, the crossover will bring it down to absolute naught. Additional driver will also introduce more frequency lapping and put the system off balance.

hehe...you are right, 3-way does sound superior on paper...but personally i have not tried 3-way yet... i heard from those experienced icer that 3-way active is a b*tch to tune...
keke...but if you get it right...then it's the ultimate sound orgasm.... smile.gif

nelsonboy.... i seriously have no idea what u r talking. Since when 2 component set = 1 6x9
wwlai87
hahaha... laugh.gif that's funny...

anyway i'm using 6x9 3-way on my rear... sound was good when i first pasang, but now i feel quite noisy..

component as u can see, all the output been devided lor... each of the device e.g speaker, crossover and tweeter do their own job.. the seperated tweeter allows u to place them anywhere around ur car to get different feel lor..

for 2-way, 3-way all like built-in lor.. simple tongue.gif

Simple bro..
component set - got 2 midbass drivers (speakers) and 2 seperate tweeters which u can position anywhere you want..on the dash,A-pillar.. and crossovers to split the frequency to ur speakers and seperate tweeters.Advantage is that you can acheive proper staging.Disadvantage is slightly more expensive.

Coaxial - tweeter mounted on the speaker cone itself..easier to manufacture, built in crossover so less components and hence cheaper price.

6x9 (3-way,4-way,5-way) - larger surface area, so can fit a sub, midrange and tweeter..3-way produces low,mid and high frequencies on one speaker component.4-way got super tweeter, capable of producing even higher frequency sounds and so on..

how to choose what to get?
if you have a sub, dont get 3-way,4-way so on because your sub is already providing enuff low freq.go for 2way.
If you dont have place for a sub,get 3-way or more to produce a larger spectrum of sound to compensate for the lack of low bass(sub)

which 2-way?
if space is limited such as rear of a aeroback car,get coaxial, for front, get components as you can mount your seperate tweeter on your A-pillar to acheive better staging..

hope this helps.. smile.gif

hrmm..so wanna ask what will be a good or decent set of 6x9?
how much should i spend on it...cuz mine kaput adi..
i havent really decided on a budget cuz i know nothing on ICE..
the pioneer ones seem good..are they advisable...?
ckmoy007
last time i used a pair of Lanzar 4 way speakers 6x9, the sound was nice and gud bass, almost like a 10" woofer. But i installed it in an enclosure cos my car's rear doesn't fit 6x9" and i was on budget, subless that time. Power it with a 4 ch Blaupunkt amp bridged. Was very satisfied at that time, then greed comes... tongue.gif
