Use Norton Ghost 8.0 ... DOS Version 1.....more stable~!
adyjob
I often use Norton Ghost 8 or above is good enough and it is stable..
But for your information..if your OS is Vista then you must use Norton Ghost 11 and above cause I have try on ver 8 it doesn't work even after successfully cloned.
samurai1337
I've never faced any f*ckup in Acronis TrueImage either, so not sure why many of you claimed NortonGhost 8 is especially stable.

Anyways, either one will work smile.gif

it's Acronis True Image right?
David83
My company uses Norton Ghost. It seems like more reliable.

Personally, both of them are as good. Out of habit through, I use Ghost. We the original cloning software, and IMO still the best.
derek87
i used norton Ghost 12 to try clone it, get problems with Drive letters, and i heard there's a problem with norton ghost, it messes up ur drive letter, and Acronis wont. So im giving it another try with acronis, and also waiting for some guru to answer my thread.

Btw here is my thread.

My 40gb c:\ partition is currently full to the brim and so I need to transfer it to a new hard disk. The problem is when I do so I'm afraid all my other softwares that were installed at other directories (D,E and F) might not work. I'm also against installing windows again in new hard disk. Is it possible to maintain C:\ drive to other hd without effecting windows and its registries?

What program should I use?

Thanks in advance.
nodeffect
maybe u can just copy and paste to your new hdd
sotplug
Copy and paste will not work. You'll need some disk cloning software.

Is better use ghost or acronis image software...

NasiLemakMan

i have tested copy and paste all the files to new hdd partition....the new drive cant not boot at all..
I suspect that some of the windows system can not be copy under normal windows mode...

While the seagate software can let you copy whole thing into a new drive...just go through the user guide...
and you will manage to copy whole drive...and new drive manage to boot into window mode.

Copy and paste will not copy system files such as bootloaders. Anyone know where the registry file is?
songbo
use partition magic?
carjack18
For safety and to avoid frustration, is better to use a disk cloning software like what is mentioned by cheenjeat008
hkpoh
copy n paste is the way, and it shall not the way.
cloning is the only way. Case close

There is a great imaging software called Acronis TrueImage that works great for this. The interface is much more user friendly than ghost

NasiLemakMan
After I cloned my c:\ can I delete windows from the old c drive?
hkpoh
test ur new hdd 1st, if no problem in starting windows, then u can delete whatever u wan
NasiLemakMan
Buthc. I panicked when I saw the new HDD that I cloned into had almost the same partition as the old one not the one that I set. So I just formatted it doh.gif and my old hdd cannot reboot. In the end I just install a new OS.
Those rm10 Vista that ms offers to students.

Does norton ghost or acronis true image allow you to move windows XP from a E:\ drive to a D:\ or C:\ drive?

I mean, if my windows is in E drive, all the parameters in windows would point to E drive right? hmm.gif
vincent_ng86
I suggest Acronis. It is user friendly.

No no..... you don't get what I mean......

I know about Norton Ghost and Acronis in that they can backup the image of a drive and also transfer it to another drive/HDD.

My question is - c:\windows, if transferred using ghost or acronis to d:\windows, will it work? rclxub.gif

Update : I found out how to do it already..... and as expected, it is definitely not using Norton Ghost/Acronis.... wink.gif
