I know many couples like to make love without condoms. I juz want to ask if girls here are taking birth control pills?? Many people would say that birth control pills will cause pregnancy problem later in life but my gyne told me that if I have active sex life, I should take it. She also advised me that when we want baby, we should stop taking it for 2 - 3 months, to clear off our system, before proceeding to make babies.
I have taken birth control pills for a while because my bf like it. I juz want to know if others are taking it too because juz now when I think of marrying my boy-boy, I scared I cannot pregnant with his babies in the future...

First,i'm not really taking any because i don't wanna have any problems with my health in the future, and that i don't think i'll be able to cope with the side effects like diziness, heavy period and whatnot. Not too sure bout all this but these are facts i've read up and that i don't know if the latest pills are much more improved or so.
This kind of hormone pills will eventually disrupt ur system in the long run,i think(not sure bout it),but........you shouldn't worry much as ur bf is encouraging u to take them so that he can freely having sex with you without the condom, giving me the thought that he might not wanna have baby with u as that will make him not taste the pleasure of orgasm in 9 months.
Go google up or whatever, don't let ur love blind u too much

i heard that taking this type of pills if it does not suit the person it would have a lot of effects
as the hormone is disrupted it will cause lumps on the breast, heavy period, the growth of the breast that might cause ache etc
do check with ur gyne again to know all the possible side effects that may occur

Simplest way is to consult your ob-gyn. They can most likely prescribe you the most suitable birth control pill and advise you accordingly, e.g. about its side effects, suitability, etc. A friend I know previously tried other pills under friends' recommendations, but they all gave her very unpleasant side effects (Heavy menstruation, weight gain, insomnia), so she went to her ob-gyn, who prescribed her Loette- the only birth control pill she can take without experiencing those problems. So yeah, do consult your ob-gyn.
Never try to be your own doctor as it is why most people tend to have problems after taking birth control pills, usually following friend's advice, etc. Remember that one woman's birth control pill can be another woman's poison (Cliched, but true

)

I had taken Nordette and now, Meliane. I am thinking of changing brands but I am not sure what to go for. I think I need to speak to my gyne but thought I just joined this board, so I posted for some views and feedbacks.
Even though gyne recommend, I think sometimes doctors can be wrong too because we are playing with nature. We are eating pills (scientific) to control our periods (natural) so I just feel bad a bit about it.

If you don't feel comfortable with what your ob-gyn recommends you, voice out. Your ob-gyn should be able to make necessary changes or give necessary advice. Even though they can be wrong, but they have the sufficient knowledge to rectify and correct things. You will be playing with your health if you simply switch just because a person who may not have the proper knowledge or guidance tells you so. Like I've said, what works for one woman may not work for the other. At least ob-gyns know that and can correct it.

the effects could mean that the pills arent suitable for u. just switch to another brand until u find one thats effective. kindly refrain fr making such remarks bcoz i doubt tht u hv taken or even seen one in real life before. personally, i started going on ocp not for the sex but due to issues with my period cycle. nvr really had issues like bloating, heavy menstruation etc. in fact it did help with my mood swings
but its best to consult a gynae for wats best for u.

Agree with what Siowgirl said.
That's the truth of OC. Actually OC did help ladies/womens a lot. Try to ask your gynae and get the one with lowest dose. In the market got a lot of brands that offer lower dose OC such as Yasmine, Diane 35 (more for complexion and ladies 30s and above, proven not suitable for everyone), Loette and etc.
Anyway, most of the OC doesn't suitable for ladies having blood pressure problem or migraine. Read the leaflet carefully.
The best way, go to find an experience lady gynae (if shy to talk to guys), choose a time that she/he most free (don't go when ppl want to close, it's irritate the nurse and will chase you away), do the ladies check-up (PAP SMEAR is a must for ladies who's having/had SEX life once a year, Virgin also can do, after 30s only require and for the one just 'lose' your virgin, it's recommend to start checking after 1/2 a year from that date and once a year) and ASK after/during the checks.
I asked a professor of the famous gynae before (can't remember her name), she said it's not necessary to stop before having baby, the DR that ask you to stop usually because she want your hormones goes naturally and see how's the cycle go. But it's recommended to stop for 1 month after of year of taking, just like take a break. If your 'life' is not allowing, then it can continue (make sure you're taking very low dose OC of course!)
Just my 2 cents. ASK A GYNAE is the BEST way.
Cheers...

I'm on POP due to cramps and heavy periods and came it has fewer side effects compares to the combined ones. If you notice any irregular bleeding/spotting, or you're not feeling well after taking the pills, you should talk to your gynae, as you may need a different brand. The gynae won't be able to know which one suits you the most because everyone's body reacts differently to different pills. What is suitable for your body may not be suitable for another person.
Birth control pills do cause some health issues not just mood swings
I think the choice is yours whether you want to go on pills not your boyfriends, afterall, he's not the one who's getting all the side effects, but you are. I know how much men like it without the condoms!

There is a practice where you can reduce the long term effect of using a long term drug as birth control pills.
I.e. You can take the pill for 3 months and then stop taking for a month (during this month you can't have unprotected sex - this is to allow your body to return to normal/neutral state). Take the pill again after one month and stop again etc. Random stopping - 3 months then 5 months then back to 3 months can help the body reduce the reliance on such drug. Hence reducing the possibility of having conceiving problem later in life.
This practice is also being used on certain cancer patients, depending on doctor's approach. To reduce their reliance on drugs and get their body to be normal.
Nevertheless, consult a good gyno.

On the subject of pill, there is much misinformation surrounding this. Again contrary to popular belief, there is no side-effects or few reported arising from the use of the Pill. Altho there have been few complaints that included weight gain, nauses, breast tenderness and irregular menstrual bleeding. Interestingly there haave been cases where women on the Pill were replrted to have lighter period, improved acne condition. and it's been found to protect against anaemia ans ovarian cysts.
Bes ure read up on the different methods birth control. Consult your doctor before starting one of them.
Theres few in the market that is good for acne condition. Lke: Yasmin selling RM36, Diana selling RM35, mercilon, marvilon selling at RM20.
Im currently using mercilon for 2 months. starting my 3rd strip soon on tomorrow.
Agree with MCH, is better to eat 3 month, stop the 4th month and continue again.

actually the best OC to take would be those with lower doses
like someone mentioned before Loette is one of the best in the market
its advisable to go for check ups because if you have other problems like bleeding problems, or heart problem, it is recommended to take low dose OC or POP. besides heavy smokers are advised to take POP too. could be the method you are taking the pills. suppose to start taking the first pill on your first day of period... continue 21 days... rest for 7 days... then continue the next box. this will allow your period to come during the 7 rest days.
mind that yasmin and diane is using another type of drug to reduce side effects like acne and water retention. it is not low dose OC.
working in a pharmacy does help in getting info

*added*
like someone mentioned, it is preferred not to take any pills cause you are interfering with the natural hormones. and some people do experience difficulty in getting pregnant as different people have different hormone system.
the pap smear is also very important, as it can detect very very early stages of cervical cancer, thus allow proper management to avoid cancer. so pls remember to consult your gynae. its nothing to be shy about and prevention is better than cure. cheers~

different types of oral contraceptives have different mecahnism of actions and different side effects. one works good for you doesnt mean will work well with your friend, and side-effects that your friend's experience or from where you heard from doesnt necessarily will affect you either.
and oral contraceptives is reversible, that means you are fertile when you stop taking it. and missed dose could cause pregnancy too.
just to be sure that you do not have familiar history of endometriosis and stroke (specifically deep vein thrombosis). those group of women can not take most oral contraceptives.
and like said by some above, contrary to most beliefs, oral contraceptives have been used for other indications as well, such as acne, stabilizing hormone, unusual irregular period/bleeding etc. so it doesnt really have to create problem such as acne or irregular menstruation, although weight gain and breast tenderness are common side effects. usually your menstruation will only become unpredictable for the first few months of starting oral contraceptives. in fact, long term use of oral contraceptives have been studied and suggested that there was lower case of breast cancer with women taking contraceptives compare to those that didnt.

I am just curious.
Although taking the pills avoids pregnancy, how about STDs? Since many were going on about having sex without condom, how are you going to guard against STDs ? I am aware that even condom is not fool proof, but it is better than having zero protection against it.

It is true that some people do take contraceptive pills for health reason.
1. Bad skin (pimples)
2. Hormonal imbalance
Taking contraceptive pills are not as bad as what we perceived it to be. Just choose brands which are low in estrogen. The only bad side of taking the pill is that one might get mood swings and also gain weight easily. There are a few brands which cost more that will not have such side effects.
Morning pills are not that advisable to be taken so often because they have more side effects compared to the regular pills. Side effects with the morning pills are:
1. periods tend to be irregular, which can be a considerable nuisance.
2. sometimes periods stop - this may be a worry to you, and you may need the reassurance of a pregnancy test.
3. if you did become pregnant while taking the mini-Pill, there is a chance that the pregnancy might be ectopic, that is outside the womb - so if your period is late and you get pain in your lower tummy, contact a doctor fast (ectopics are said to be rarer with the recently-developed Cerazette).
4. you may get spots on your skin.
5. you could get tender breasts.
6. there's a small risk of cysts in the ovaries - indeed, it's best not to use the POP if you've already had an ovarian cyst.
7. nausea and headache sometimes occur.
As for STDs this is more of how responsible the partner decide to be. A rubber is still just a rubber. No guarantees that it would not break, leak or whatever we dread that would happen hence putting on the rubber.
Maturity, faithfulness and responsibility is the prevention and solution to all disease.

I was on Cerazette because of cramps and heavy period. 3 periods in 6 months - that's one of the 'side effects' of mini pills. Some people don't get periods at all for a year. I was on The Pill before too but found Mini Pill a better option for me.

baobei16> I think it's already mentioned earlier that each BCP side effects varies from each woman. What you have to do if you want to be on pills is to go and get a body check and your doctor will advice you which to take. You might need to try a few different types until you found out that suits your body best (less side effects). Bring your guy along so that he can learn about those pills and what it does to your body.

Each pill reacts differently for each woman. You might have to try a few before you get one that's right for you. A pill that works for every other woman might not work for you. Which is why you should see a doctor first. Please do not get serious medication off the shelves without consulting a doctor. It's your health on the line (and your fertility).
