If you're an Accounting major, U probably would have heard of the Big 4's - it used to be the Big 5's until the Enron case! Currently the Big 4s are (in no particular order):-

1) Ernst & Young
2) PricewaterhouseCoopers
3) Deloitte Kassim Chan
4) KPMG

If i'm not mistaken, BDO Binder is probably #5 - need to check and ask those who's in the industry. I'm not in the industry hence *shrugs* can't give much more information smile.gif

@TS,
If you want your career to be based in Singapore then go look for a job in Singapore. Likewise, if you want to concentrate your career in KL, it's best u start your career here. You should also look at the networking opportunities; start building your network for a better future nod.gif

What is big4 ?
tinkerbel
@kb2005,
*siGh* Go Google it !
kianweic
I am working in one of the big 4.

For manufacturing experience, Malaysia has plenty already.

Singapore is well paid, don't think there are many manufacturing companies in Singapore that much anymore. Lotsa financial services though, if you wanna get into investment banks in later life go to Singapore.

Anyway, if you do join one of the big 4, be prepare to have very little leisure time.

tinkerbel
@kianweic,
It's Ok to sacrifice a little of our time when we're young, right? *grins* Once you've reached a certain level, u would'll learn how to balance ur time smile.gif

working in big4 squeezes life out of u as they expect a lot from you

BDO Binder is rank #5 and yes, they are trying to make it as Big5 and not Big4..

BDO is getting bigger now as the KPMG partners joined BDO for almost half a year already and there are a lot changes made.. A good sign for BDO though..

Well, you might need to consider join BDO as fresh grad from ACCA get good pay here.. smile.gif
wintermelon
If you're a fresh graduate, it's better to join any of the big 4 to gain some experience. Joining any of the big 4 is a good stepping stone for you smile.gif
kaikeikan
Yay,i'm studying ACCA now.

Aghh gotta experience that kind of lifestyle that young...gotta deal with it anyway,for the future's sake.

Yeah I heard the starting pay for fresh grad in audit in RM 3000 after revision this year. KPMG I think they only pay RM 2750 after revision this year.
Anyone has any idea about their starting salary for fresh grad in BIG 5 or 4?

the KPMG partners that went to BDO are very aggressive in promoting themselves as BIG 5.
tinkerbel
@asiahost,
Starting salary for SA2 is RM3k? Sure or not? Let me verify this when sis returns from her holiday!

3000? are you kidding me? Malaysia or singapore? According to some market analyst, big4 will be expected to lose their biggest client to medium size audit firms. This is due to some recent fraud cases reported on the papers and medium size firm proven they can provide competitive service compare to over-priced-service by Big4. Few years back, i even heard PWC is accpeting more and more risky client from other big3, while the big3 is happily cut down this kind of client...
Prince_Hamsap
Fresh grad only get paid 2300 in EY... doh.gif
Go into a good MNC, can get better pay. cheers.gif

I am not very sure but I got this news from an "internal" circulation in kpmg that they might increase salary for AA2 between 15% to 20%. Their managers will get increment of at least 30% in their Jan pay. oh yeah this is KPMG Malaysia.
tinkerbel
@asiahost,
AA2 and SA2 are separate positions, isn't it? If so, how would a fresh graduate come in as AA2 and not SA2 assuming AA2 is indeed a separate position from SA2 and that SA2 is the entry level position? [G.. the sentence sound like some programming language! oopS] sweat.gif

I am saying AA2 not SA2. And I don't know what is SA2 as I did not mention it in my post. Just assumption by others that there are SA2. Actually I am referring AA2.

I guess its because the ex-KPMG partners in BDO Binder wanna grab all the graduates out there that's why they offer higher.. Furthermore, BDO is getting more clients now.. not in audit but in BAS
tinkerbel
@asiahost,
So an AA2's entry level salary is RM3k? And, is AA2 an entry level position - as in, meant for fresh graduates with no experience?
kianweic
These days accountants are very high valued by many companies and many countries. Well, Malaysia accountant's pay is still nowhere its supposed to be. Even China is paying more for accountants than Malaysia these days.

Yeah there is a salary revision in KPMG but I can't devulge that information since its confidential.

tinkerbel
@kianweic,
China's overpaying the professionals because they need the skills (at least for now!) If u really want to make the quick bucks, transfer to China and stay there for 2-3 years. Save up and come back to KL smile.gif
kianweic
It's definitely an option, will definitely think about given that I speak Mandarin and 2 other dialects.

However, I am actually planning to learn German language or maybe Spanish language. Haven't been to Europe before, I might wanna go there sometime down the track.
tinkerbel
@kianweic,
Pick up the language when ur making the $ in China ? *grins*
shanelai
What is the full name and the difference between AA2 and SA2 in KPMG by the way? I tot It is the same thing??
kianweic
AA2 = Audit Associate 2

SA2 = Senior Associate 2

Goes like this start out as AA2 => AA1 => SA2 => SA1 => Manager => Associate Director => Director => Partner

Not too sure whether is the most recent one but I think it's something like dat
shanelai
Wao... Means fresh graduate can get RM3k per month??
wow.... so attractive~~

Do you expect SA2 to get RM 3000? Of course NOTTTT! It is an entry level.. Audit Assistant and yeah fresh graduates. They revised it.

Between, there are some firms are getting rid of the S1 position and replace it to Assistant Manager. To induce more people to stay..

Many people tend to resign too early.. that's why they offer higher and abolish a few rank.
Imagine
I've done a survey between the big 4+1 (including BDO)

KPMG has done their revision (minimum 20% to all level) in December 2007.

EY is planning to revise its salaries in January 2008 (info confirm)

PWC is still silent on this matter though they have won the Synergy Drive engagement, which will bring them multi million revenue (no convenient to disclose how much). (May be March 2008)

Deloitte is also silent after they were badly hit by transmile & so so so .....
(imagine they have lost so many client in 2007)

BDO (i.m.o is currently the no.4 in m'sia), you guys should take a look at their new portfolio, after the ex-KPMG partner went over they had secure number of big jobs in M'sia and China. Hence they can now provide basic pay as comparable as the other BIG 4s... hahaha

Conclusion
------------

Entry level (fresh grade, no working experience) - RM2,350 to 2,400
(with professional papers such as CPA) - RM2,450 to 2,550

2nd level - RM2700 - RM3,200 (1 year working experience)

3rd level - RM3,600 - RM4,000 (2 years working experience)

4th level - RM4,500 - RM5,000 (3 years working experience)

Pls note that the above information are the latest info obtain for certain departments from the Big 4s and those are not manager level yet..... lets try and guess how much they earn ... hahaha (5 digits)

The info above are also for average performer only, if you are a outstanding performer (you will be getting more than your other peers) as Big 4s are so performance base.

Try ask around before joining.
Prince_Hamsap
How much can someone like me get if I were to join the Big 4?
Ayam gonna finish my ACCA next year, and got about 2 years experience in a local listed company.

PS - I DON'T wanna be an auditor rclxs0.gif

What other qualification do you have besides ACCA?
Assuming that you don't have any and will only obtain your ACCA next year, you are most likely to start at entry level (or support staff). Depending on the work experience you have, whether it is related to the position/department you apply, your salary will commensurate based on that.

I've no idea where u obtained r source from but if AA2 is indeed the entry level position, the starting salary is NOT RM3k.

I spoke with a friend from the industry and she said it's not possible. Haven't had a chance to ask another close associate of mine as she's out of the country but will do so when I next see her.

Dear all;

Just wanna ask some advise here.

How much should a person expects if he has about one year audit experience and joins big 4 (excl Deloitte) as an A1?

Hahaha, now everyone is confused, the table i've shown up there was after adjustment of 20 - 30% and the AA2 level (fresh entry level) has not reached RM3,000 yet. AA2 before salary adjustment was RM2,100 (in January 2007) Hence the increase will be around 10 - 16%. rolleyes.gif

haha... let them post what they like...

when they join they will know the truth !! laugh.gif

In normal scenario a fresh grad would not earn 3k. However.. i do know one person in Big4 (fresh grad) who earns about 3k. This was back in 2005.

To say AsiaHost is wrong, I cannot say it.. hahaha laugh.gif
