But when i tried to use other pc to connect to the router, it will attempt to connect and shows this message " Windows couldn't find a certificate to log you on" . What should I do to fix this problem ?? will installing the router's driver into every computer that im gonna use help ? isnt tat gonna be so mah fan..
WHU
I got this DIR-300 Router. I've never received "Windows couldn't find a certificate to log you on" this message... could u post the screenshot?

Also, you don't have to install driver in every computer....

jolmy
Never seen this problem anyway. Perhaps there is something not right with that particular computer. Have you try with yet another PC? maybe borrow friend's or neighbor's notebook and try.
kanzaki
i got 3 other running on wireless in my house...all showing the same message...bah headache... =/

sengmun
If u connect other machine using wireless, wat security u set in ur router to use the wireless
kanzaki
all 3 using xp and i use both i.e. and firefox yet is still not working...but the problem is the message showed up when i was trying to connect to the router...=/ .. i use open WEP
jolmy
I guess you mean you are connecting the wireless card to the DIR-300.

Looks like this could be some problem with Windows settings itself. Tried googling it but could not find any solution so far. Shall let you know if I found any solution.
kanzaki
yeah was googling for it for a while now...but seems like i couldnt find a solution yet but will post it if i do find any juz in case any1 face the same problem as me in the future...

If not mistaken it appear "Validating Identity" or "Windows couldn't find a certificate to log you on", rite?

Ok, it's not the DIR-300 Wireless Router problem. It's actually a setting in Windows Wireless Connection, that's needed to be disabled.

What u need to do is, open your Wireless network properties => click the wireless network tab => select your preferred wireless network, then click Properties => click on Authentication tab => make sure u uncheck Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network.

It works for my customers. So I do hope it will work for all of u.

CHEERS!!!

Or u can download my manual => [attachmentid=361023]
kanzaki
thanx a lot stcpg4u...ur step actually works and my problem has been solved...if any1 else is having problem with their windows couldn't find a certificate to log u on...here is the solution for u...and again thank stcpg4u =D CHEERS!

Recently i own a Dlink wireless ADSL2 + router (DSL-2640T) encounter constantly connection loss and sometimes need to restart pc 2 or 3 times (during online) then can be connected. I m using wired. This does not happen when i used my streamyx free modem (DB102 ADSL modem 2/2+). Izzit my Dlink failure or need some setting to do. Please advise. Thanks.

Download the latest beta firmware (currently 1.03) from DIR-300 product page and flash your DIR-300 with this firmware.

WARNING: Do NOT upgrade firmware using wireless connection. Please use a wired connection when performing upgrade

You may also consider put the router standing up using the bracket. This gives better air flow to reduce heat.

Juz update the firmware, hope this will really solve my problem... Thanks to bro jolmy~

The firmware is a .bin file. Use the web configuration of DIR-300 to flash it. It's in Maintenance > Firmware Update. Browse the file and click apply. The process takes about 2 to 3 minutes usually. Do not power off the DIR-300 during the process.

If that doesn't work, flash it to DD WRT instead wink.gif After all, it's about the only reason why I would buy a DIR 300 nowadays...

Well, it works fine in my case. The 1.01 firmware supplied with the router is problematic, which leads to the 1.02 beta and now 1.03 beta.

Sometimes the hang happens because of overheating (perhaps). But not anymore since I place the router on standing position using the bracket.

That is for WPS, Which is the source of the problem of this thread smile.gif

If you disable WPS, remove the wireless profiles on windows and readd it.
Then you will find that the 802.1x things disable.

Also another way is to use WAP smile.gif
That one also get the problem solve and safer also smile.gif

WPS is applicable only for WinVista users anyway. However I did try connect my friend and cousin's Vista powered notebook and do not have any problem.

If you set the DIR-300 to WAP mode, you will need another router for NAT to work. From my understanding, the DIR-300 will only function as an Access Point while the 4 wired ports will only function as a switch.

Who say that???

DIR-300 is a Router lah...

oop, is WPA (Not WAP)

Using that encryption is better alot.

If you do realize, there is a setting that disable the router mode into just an Access Point. I thought you really mean WAP (wireless access point) tongue.gif

Yes.. WPA is a lot better. WPA2 will be preferred anyway. In my case I enabled both WPA/WPA2, because my cousin here need to connect his Sony PSP, which only supports WEP and WPA, but not WPA2.

dd-wrt is a third-party (not the router's manufacturer) firmware, which was originally develop based on linksys WRT54G firmware. maybe thats why there's the 'wrt'. however i dunno what the 'dd' stands for. here's for further info.

well, i'm not a dd-wrt sifu. but to me, dd-wrt is essentially a firmware that will transform ur cheap, ordinary router to a stable, feature rich one. for instance, these r the things that i like in my dd-wrt (there r many other, however not within my interest), which can be hardly found on most home-class routers.
- nocatsplash : force everybody using internet from ur router to view a certain page 1st.
- support hotspot system : chillispot, wifidog, sputnik.
- static dhcp - pre-set the dynamic ip for ur users based on their mac. by using this, it is easier to control access, usage etc for different kind of users (based on ip range).
- mac filter - up to 128 users (most stock firmware supports <30)
- ur router can operate in multiple modes: ap, wds, client bridge, repeater bridge. these modes r useful if u want to expand ur wireless network
- universal repeater mode - can repeat any wifi signal, without any configuration (or knowledge) on the original signal source
- tweak ur router - increase transmit power (to extend range), overclock the cpu, select which antenna to use etc
- port forwarding
- QoS
- ddns
- url filtering

i bought a dir-300 yesterday and have successfully flash it to dd-wrt v24 rc5. its kinda difficult if u r a noob. check the guide here.

however for routers like linksys wrt54gs/gl etc, u can flash to dd-wrt using the same way as upgrading ur firmware.

he he finally... i managed to connect my dir-300(router) with PCI blw-54mf(repeater)....
OwenMnM
Any know this DIR-300 can be use like repeater ?

I looking for this DIR-300 link(lan cable) to my existing wifi router to extend my wifi signal. Does this work ?
