I'm going to continue my study and thinking of getting a wireless broadband package because the area that i live in has no fon line so i cannot connect to the internet the conventional way. This is because the area is a new residential development. I regularly downloads big files from the net and thinking of getting the 3.6Mbps package.
My question is which of this two (Celcom & Maxis) packages is better in term of speed?
Usually the wireless packages includes a USB modem for laptops, does the modem also works with desktops?

I would say none of them. If you look at their ToS cloesly , they limit it to 3GB (although its not imposed but they can do it at anyitme without even informing the customer - so think tiwce)
If you are a heavy downloader you can forget about Maxis and Celcom. Trust me they aren't for heavy downloaders. Maxis has a technology that automatically caps you to a slower speed whenever you try to download something big. I am not sure about Celcom. Plus you must be under their 3G/HSDPA Coverage

Hmm....This reminds me when I'm trying to get a 110mb files from net using torrent.
THe connection was practically stopped responding.I can only get it to work after a restart of my lappy.And will be the same situation when getting the torrent file to download.

I'm working in Maxis and I can tell you the BB is not good. It used to rock until too many people suscribed for it. Same goes for Streamyx and Jaring, was good until it became overloaded. Celcom, I'm not sure but I never trusted them.
I heard Streamyx is getting a change in something, management? Not sure. Heard that they will be improving their services. How true is that I have no idea tho...

Base on everybody's respond, stremyx is better for downloading big files but it's a fix line. So in term of wireless broadband, Celcom is better than Maxis right?

I dont know man, people say in order to advance in career's you need to change job often. To me its the same as BB, to get a good service you need to keep switching to the latest BB lol. I've been using a few BB, and from observation, they normally come out good and start to degrade to a point that its not bearable and a new ISP will come out, then you change and move on.
u can try celcom. i use maxis broadband, but celcom definitely can satisfied u. (becoz i love it)
streamyx connection for stability but for mobility get celcom 3g doesnt really recommend maxis 3g alot ppl complain. Newer doesnt mean better because lack of infrastructure and due to limited customer their capacity not so huge will cause alot issue

1st, look at your area. either got hsdpa (maxis) or 3gx (celcom) coverage or not.
if not, you wont able to get 3.6mbps max speed

i can get 50kpbs dl direct download (using accelerators) and torrent (using bitcomet 0.66modded) because celcom blocks certain listen port if u use normal bitcomet

Let's try to do a proper comparison:
(1) Both are 3.6mbps capable.
(2) Maxis = RM 138 monthly
Celcom = RM 98 monthly
Difference = RM 40 monthly.
Minimum Maxis contract period = 24 months
(3) "Real" difference = 24 * RM 40 = RM 960
(4) So, RM 960 should be the cost of the Huawei E220 modem. And AFAIK, the modem doesn't even belong to you at the end of the 24 months, you are merely renting it from Maxis.
If you check in lelong.com or in this forum, the Huawei E220 can be bought for around RM 700 nowadays. Even less if you are patient and good at looking for bargains.
The difference is even bigger if you continue to subscribe to Maxis beyond the 24 month period, as you'll still be paying RM 138 monthly, unless they reduce the subscription. So the difference will get bigger and bigger, the longer you stick with Maxis.

at 1st, when i use that bitcomet 0.66 modded, i could get that speed, after few weeks, the speed become 0-1 kbps...
why does it become like that??

i read at maxis web the power package (3.6Mbps) is rm98 monthly including modem..dunno if wrong
want to ask...celcom BB need any minimum contract period like maxis?

correction:
if you subscribe to RM138 monthly package, the USB modem is yours
but if you subscribe for other package (rm68/rm78/rm98), then the modem is rental (the ZTE LAN port modem, not USB one)
i ask maxis, after 24 months they reduced the price from rm138 to rm98. but so far no 1 had reach that period yet. so hopefully they will reduce more
