Scenic as in landscape?
phaechin
yeah, btw, igoing hongkong next month,is hong kong lens cheaper than malaysia?

dont know about that. if you have the budget. Get the 24-105L tongue.gif

or the sigma 10-20mm/12-24mm. Cheaper 1 you can find the tokina 12-24. 2nd hand can cost around 1.4k only. and its a wide angle. If you're lucky you can find the sigma 10-20 for around 1.6k. Just browse around other forums too.

Or if you want other kind of lens, the tamron 17-50mm f2.8 will do just fine smile.gif
nairud
he wants IS... so it's 17-55/2.8 IS tongue.gif
phaechin
my budget was less than 1k.

wa sweat.gif i dont think you can find a lens with IS on that kind of price.
phaechin
is there any website that i can check the lens pricelist in malaysia?
soulfly
well... u could try shashinki.com ... it's a malaysian based online store, but don't expect to find a COMPLETE range of lenses.

with your kind of budget, i don't think u could find a decent wide angle. you are currently using the 18-55mm kit lens right? if u want wider than 18mm, it would take you more than RM1000.

but with that kind of budget you could easily get a decent zoom lens though.
goldfries
budget less than 1k, not much you can get. perhaps a used 17-50 f2.8 from Tamron. no IS la. smile.gif

your 350D kit lens can snap scenery, no problem. that RM 1k how about using it for 50mm f1.8 and 70-300mm?
vikingw2k
For RM1k you can get yourself a used Tammy 17-50 f2.8 lens mentioned by goldie.

Alternatively if you are really into getting a IS lens, you may go for used Canon 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS

nairud
used tammy itself can cost up to 1.1k the cheapest depending on condition. less than 1k for tammy 17-50? tough luck
Mavik
I totally agree that finding a Tammy for less than 1k is really pushing your luck.

Perhaps you can reconsider your budget about getting the wideangle lens. The Sigma 10-20mm lens is a really good lens for landscape photography. If you check the latest DCM magazine, there is a famous landscape photographer from Australia who uses the Canon 350D and the Sigma 10-20mm lens with a range of filters (CPL + ND + ND Grad). Stunning shots!

i got my tammy for free thru a trade.. grabbed a 350D kit with BGE3 and tammy for RM1600, sold off the kit with BGE3 for RM1600. got an extra RC1 remote and a sandisk ultraII 1GB and a couple of filters for free too..

found another greater deal for my friend which include a D70(only 3k shutter count) + Kit lens + 50mm f1.8 + tammy 28-75 f2.8 + SB600 + Sanyo batt with charger + lexar 1GB and a few other goodies for RM2500.

but these kinda deal is extremely hard to come by..
just spare your cash, and grab when the opportunity comes..

Well, since you have no budget (i'll assume you have none due to your request for IS) , i'd suggest the GP L class, the 24-105 F4.0L IS, great lense, solid build, unless you get a lemon, what's there not to like about it? It does holiday shots pretty well as it can run between tele and wide pretty easily.

If you're generally into scenery or landscape, hurr, try the 70-200 F2.8L IS, you give up about 2 stops but in low light and end day scenery shooting, it's just a gem. Bloody heavy tho, i just lugged it around the whole day and my arm hurts lol.

You probably can get the 24-105 2nd hand for around 2k if you're lucky. That's as near to 1k as you'll ever get.

but seriously, why 70-200 F2.8L IS just for scenery / landscape?

smile.gif might as well get 10-22mm for like 1/3 the price.

damn, how much you got your 70-200mm f2.8 L IS for? still recovering after buying 40D + 17-40mm f4 L + 70-200mm f2.8 L sad.gif plan to get a 10-22mm instead of 70-200mm f2.8 L IS. Do you face any problem with the IS thingy?

Well, add the 1.6x crop factor due to the APS-C sensor and you have a lense that essentially can't do anything besides scenery and landscape. 120mm at short and 320mm at the long end is seriously too much lah.

Time to go Full Frame babeh! Say bye bye to annoying crop factor and bad wide angles with EF lenses and say hello to Vignetting!

I got mine for 6.25k. There's a shop at Ampang Park's second floor selling a used on for 3.2k, send to Canon for recal and you should be good to go.

No problem with the IS so far, works like a charm although focusing isn't as accurate as i'd like it to be, might send it in for calibration.
