Dear All,
I'm a noob here for DC and now buying my first Digital Camera, can any Pro teach me what to check to avoid being cheated by shop? I dun want get any Fake DC e.g. Made in China those. How can i know the camera is from original manufacturer? and Beside LCD "Dead Pixels", what else should i check?

FYI, I'm buying the Canon Digital Ixus 860IS

Easiest? Go to canon concept lor. But then expansive. If you want better prices, look at a reputable shop. They would not risk their reputation selling recon units.

Price doesn't mean anything... i know if u buy straight from Canon shop, sure they won't risk their reputation
But if can save, then save lor ~

Make sure the cam came with Canon Malaysia warranty card.

just go to popular/well-known shops near you...ask a friend who is more experienced in buying gadgets and DCs to follow you when you are purchasing your camera... make sure to check the warranty card and so on...

But in technicality most stuffs are made in China...

But like I said, go for those reputable shops, you cant go wrong there. It does not have to be a Canon Concept, ask around.

Get a budget and see what camera is at that range.. then go to http://www.dpreview.com/ or any other site for review. Sorry but I think this site is ok with me though..

Then decide and buy lor.. Simple as that. And normally memory card is cheaper at computer shop so check it out first.

Good luck tongue.gif

I heard many saying not to get a camera from shops in lowyat, I'm not quite sure why. Mayb you should try surveying YL Camera at Pudu Plaza and J-One at Amcorp Mall which I often heard positve feedbacks bout them before buying. Just my 2 cents! icon_rolleyes.gif

I'd say go try Harvey Norman @ Ikano The Curve. You can bargain like crazy. I did for mine and you can be certain that the goods there are all original.

I got my Lumix z18 there for RM1450 for 4gb SD, tripod, screen protector, original bag and + RM150 for extended 5 years warranty. Gotta have balls to bargain la and also make sure you know ur stuff about the camera you want.

Alot of Canon products uses AA batteries and there's a downside of it, make sure you know about these stuff as well before considering a camera. Good start for DC compacts I would recommend something like a Lumix FX-100 or IXUS 750

Good Luck

first time buying?
ask for free gifts...

some of the common free gifts are pouch, strap, screen protector, mini tripod, microfibre cloth...
