yup...it is Alcatel-Lucent now.
headcount freeze? nah...it's transition time. just merged with lucent mah...so gotta filter out the redundancy first.
there is a trend recently developing in all the vendors in Malaysia. There's a lot more opening in contract basis compared to permanent ones. off course the pay is better for contract basis but then it's contract so it's like a double edge sword. but if lay your cards well then i don't see any problem. just make sure the project duration is a long one.
i'll just be frank with the vendor scenario here. no racism or bad-mouthing intended:
1. Huawei: they do pay well. got lots of benefits. u can keep the laptop given to u after 2 years. environment? it's like an asylum for workaholics there. they'll squeze the life out of u. it's like squezzing the juice form the orange. when all the juice is out, they'll dunk u in a basin and squeeze u again. if you can speak their language it wud be great, cause' they dont give a rat's ass about u when meeting are conducted. they'll just use their mother land language. insider info...
2. ericsson: in danger of becoming non-existent in malaysia a few years back. then suddenly they got the lion share of the 3g projects and boom they come alive again. all round good environment there. a well balanced mixture of locals plus mat salleh. pay? ok lah. benefits good. very flexible in working hours. got good open ended job shifting thingy. u can transfer into different dept easily with the right rapo. but...alas...gotta work really hard to get that though.
3. siemens? tooooooooooooooo slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
4. the rest? probably like ericsson.....
so here's the conclussion. if u can cope with stress...go for vendors. pay is likely the same. doesn't matter where it is, any place is a good start. if u don't want too much stress, go for telcos...u can just screw all the vendors when something gos wrong....
