can any1 post a comparison between all the vpn services available?? It gives me a headache to choose...TQ

(Xlcore & Reuben, this is only my personal feedback. Please don't take it seriously.)

So far I've tried both Xlcore & Reuben. I think it's due to the file I'm downloading (you know, that not too many seeder kind of reason)... I'm only hit 20kBps most of the time. And please bear in mind on thing that annoy me the most. Your connection to the server might be cut off halfway and you have to reconnect MANUALLY to get that connection back. There're also alot issue with the server which might result temporary service interruption. You have to help yourself follow up with the service provider closely to check with the server status.
I've also tried that SecureIX (free) version. Can't get connected at all.

Come to the end, if compare with 5k, better still have 20k right? wink.gif

Foot note: VPN will result an international speed for local peer. It's better to get rid of VPN for file with lot local seeders.

I have tried HostCK, XLcore and DS' services. I have not tried BolehVPN.

HostCK:
1. Speed was excellent. Got more than 100kB/sec.
2. Unfortunately duock went MIA into the 3rd week of my subscription.
3. Decided not to subscribe when he returned.

XLcore:
1. Speed was okay. Got around 80-100kB/sec.
2. After a week or so, there were issues with bandwidth, so my connection was capped. Could only get ~70kB/sec max.
3. Decided not to renew due to speed cap.

DS:
1. Speed is excellent. Getting >100kB/sec.
2. There were initial issues, but they were resolved during the free testing period.
3. Currently using it for the second month.
4. Only problem is, I don't have enough space. smile.gif

In conclusion, DS VPN works great for me. If only I could fork out for a year's service, I would. Pricing wise, they're pretty much the same.
Joseph Hahn
I'm using DS VPN right now. I never tried the others though. Subscribed to it for RM30 for a month time. 4th day now. I'm happy with it. Multiple torrent can go over 100KBps. Of course this is because it can connect to international peers. Without it, it really depends on the local peers, with speed mostly around 20KBps TOTAL or usually... less. dry.gif Now finally i can catch up to the massive anime fansub releases this month. smile.gif Worth the 30 bucks per month IMO. thumbup.gif Here's a screenshot as a proof.

I've tried both Duock's and DS' VPN.

On Duock's VPN ver. 1, I got really awesome and consistent speeds, almost close to what I had prior to him going AWOL, i.e. ~170kbps. Now on ver. 2, it's a bit more erratic, with highs of about 150kbps and lows of about 100 kbps.

Now, when Duock went AWOL, I jumped over to DS's VPN. DS had a few servers, and I was on his local server. Speeds were erratic at first but it smoothed out after a while. Managed to get a consistent 120~150 kbps average.

Support-wise, both gave me great support, and were quick to respond to problems, though Duock went through an AWOL stage. DS has his own page and forum (my suggestion!) for support issues.

Mind you, these numbers were taken from massive swarms, e.g. Dattebayo's Naruto releases.

i'm using xlcore now ... dont have any connection problem, support is quite good, average speed is around 40K/s (using Maxis BB 384K though) ....

For me, BolehVPN is quite stable. It is not stable for you because of the server you are on is not stable and they already fixed the problem. I am on a different server which is very stable so far and the speed is great. I can get as high as 150K+ on torrents that are heavily seeded. At least the guys at BolehVPN didn't go bankrupt and run away like duock! Give them a chance, you won't regret it.

it isn't stable if ur on EU server, and the US server is high latency due to TMnet route.. i don't know man.. but from my point of view if u subs and get the EU server, then u'll see what i mean..
Diligent Sloth
As a VPN provider myself, I'm probably biased but I'd recommend either

IdealVPN - Mine
or
BolehVPN - Reubens

The reason for this is actually pretty simple, we both have the technical knowledge to run a VPN service and won't leave users hanging while we 'desperately' try to figure things out. Also we tend to resolve matters pretty fast too, so pick which one that you like, more towards a matter of personal preference than anything else...

if you want pptp vpn, i suggest you subscribe to SecureIX or Relakks because both BolehVPN and IdealVPN uses the OpenVPN format.

i hv been using bolehvpn for 1 month. reuben response to my problem was pretty fast. he helped me for hours jst to troubleshoot wat when wrong with the settings. he did solved my prblm. besides periodic server maintainance which i already expect to happen to any new services, i hv very minimal interruption on my service. i can easily maxed to 120kbps although it wont stay long on 34mbit/s pipe. it will usually stable around 90-100kbps.

This is totally untrue. Of all the VPN's, BolehVPN is most stable. I have tried all VPNs and nothing like the speed and stability of BolehVPN. Constant speeds of even 150kbps.

Somemore, Reuben gives fantastic online support. Very competent and patient.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. biggrin.gif

Btw just to clarify, yes I admit there was instability with one of my servers. Which affected a small proportion of my users (namely the 512 users).

I have given all users who have pmed me the 3 day credit to reflect this downtime and have completely rectified the problem (although the total downtime was a few hours but intermittent).

In my defence this was what happened:

1) We got a new server
2) Specs and speed were fine on initial test and did well on load
3) Started crashing randomly with no error on the server logs. None of our other servers were affected on the exact same setup.
4) Changed hardware, mobo and processor. Still crashed.
5) Was stable for 8 hours. Crashed. Checked with datacentre and reinstalled our server
6) Was stable for 48 hours (we thought it was ok already). But crashed no error as usual
7) Host offered us parallel server to test on to see if it would crash.
8) Moved all users to parallel server and have not crashed for 3 days and counting

Apparently this was something to do with the particular mobo not working too well with our server. A fault which our host admitted.

This does not affect new users as we have not been putting anybody new in this server although the situation has stabilized. It has been putting out 15-22 mbits sustained today so the speed is pretty good.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused and am glad that most of you are enjoying our service. We hope those who were unlucky enough to go through the server instability can enjoy it now as well.

Just know that it wasn't intentional and we were really trying our best. Both Rainbow and I had lots of sleepless nights monitoring that nightmare server not to mention being hounded by phone calls and e-mails.

Thank you.

to Minority: sorry for all the trouble. If you wish I can switch you to the US server although at the moment the EU servers are outperforming the US ones.

Added on May 5, 2007, 1:58 amI just checked and I think u're still on the old server Minority due to your DNS not updating.

PM me and I will tell you how to update it and see whether you need to change any configs.

Type run, cmd, ipconfig /flushdns

Well, I finally jumped on the BolehVPN bandwagon today, and please understand that I'm an utter noob technically... first off, it was very easy to set up (if you follow the guide) and I got rapid tech-support at the Bolehbit chatroom... and within minutes I was maxed out at 140-150kB/s for a single torrent... just unbelievable! And no, it's not hyperbole, just the facts.

With today's armageddon-like slowdown of even local torrents, there's just no better time to sign-up.

Reuben's Bolehvpn is the real thing. I don't know what else to say to endorse this service further... I'm just really, really happy with it! rclxms.gif

Only last week ago, cursing upon TMNut is something I do religiously everyday. WTF am I still subcribing to ShittyX when I never able to complete download my episodes of CSI, 24, Heroes, House and animes and games ISOs before it's start showing on real TV or the being obselete!!! Oh, wait.......ShittyX is actually the only 'broadband' provider (available in my lovely town of Ipoh. Honestly, this is where real food exist!!!) in our beautiful country strving to become a multimedia powerhouse. Dong!!

That's before I came upon using VPN to haxor through all the evil Shitty servers that aim to shoot down torrent traffic like a mad college student having a field day in an American campus. Now all my torrent queues finished up in 2 days...(20Gb worth of data)......Woohoo!!! Yeah!! That's what I thought.....

Actually, NOW I am damn depressed!! I got no more torrents to queue. I lost all joy waiting for shows to reach 100% so I can savour every minute of actually waiting when watching the show. I have filled up all my HDD space, burned up all my DVDs. Now I need to spend money on a bigger HDD or buy more DVDs. I having my friend complaining that I hog up so much traffic in the area, that his DL speed is only 3-4kB/s. Now I surf aimlessly to find more torrents to download, wasting my entire day online. ShittyX doesn't seem so bad after all. (Thank God that I can't get 2Mb, 4Mb or Metro-E services here, otherwise sure upgrade!!)

That, my friend, is why I hate downloading with VPN!!!

Please do not subscribe unless you want your life to be ruin!!

PS. DS is my provider..... http://vpn.s0cks.com or http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/419173 (Oii!! Do I get discount for any referals?)

PSS. Let DS know you refer from here........maybe I get discount.....Thank you!! Hahahah

I'm just wondering is there any prepaid VPN service. What i mean is that ex i subscribe for RM30/30 Days. But only calculated to the day that i connect to VPN server. So in that way i can always connect to my VPN when i just needed it ( most of time when torrenting ) and use Screamyx for others. Can save money tooo ...
Diligent Sloth
Actually yes, in the middle of implementing that, however the pricing might not be as attractive compared to subscribing on a monthly basis.

But anyway, for extremely light downloaders, the trial package should suffice, 3 days to download all your stuff smile.gif

IdealVPN is my choice. the fella just helped me troubleshoot some vista network problem for the past hour or so. that's 3AM to 4AM mind you, when most of you would be sleeping for some hours already. and now, i'm getting fantastic speeds i couldn't have dreamed of without his vpn and his help.

not only is the setting up fast (as long as you do it during normal awake hours), but he's willing to help you troubleshoot your problems to the extent that he'll take over your computer and do what needs to be done, instead of just dolling out instructions.

dunno where else can you find somebody so patient and willing to help, to the point that he delayed sleep! even i wouldn't bother! seriously respect!!!

so yes, since tmnet isn't willing to budge on it's throttling, then you either suffer with it, or get a vpn like IdealVPN. plus, you get the added security knowing that what you do will be kept private.

Mari mari, dapatkan IdealVPN sekarang juga! Then we can all sama-sama keep darrell up till the wee hours in the morning doing tech support!

What a crappy ISP to have - one that throttles our p2p bandwidth when overall bandwidth used is hardly even impacted, and now they throttle the local bandwidth as well?

Really and truly sucks. Us CrapX users would not even need to subscribe to VPN services if not for this problem - but then again, kudos to you VPN providers for your ingenuity.

When there is a will, there is a way.

Anyone tried gaming with any of these VPN services, particularly servers in the USA? So far I've heard the services are awesome for BT, but I don't BT much as I use the internet for gaming mostly. If anyone is willing to help, could you post a tracert to us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com when you're on VPN and post it here? Getting extremely frustrated with TMNet already, really digging deep to find other alternatives at the moment.

I don't understand the point of this question unless you are trying to get information on how to set up your own VPN service. To me this question seems awfully rude as well, in the way it's phrased though I guess it might be just a language barrier.

This information will only be relevant if we revealed our customer figures as well. So what if you have 1 gbit of bandwidth when you're serving 6000 customers?

Also from my experience, VPN providers have not always been the most honest in revealing their figures as there is NO way to verify how much bandwidth or customers everyone has.

All I can say is that we are still underutilized with our 4 servers operating, each on their own 100 mbit port.

As for 'ISP' we have a local and we have 3 international based in the US.

Just be wary when asking this sort of information as it is seldom that people will be honest about it and will even go to the point of lying to their customers to look good.
