is Vista quite stable now? My rig is old:

P4 631 3.0 Ghz
2 Gig DDR2 667 RAM
Aopen Nvidia 6600 256MB DDR2
160 GB HDD
250 GB HDD

Will vista ultimate (i only have this edition - got it free) runs smoothly or at least my rig will survive?

Anyways, it looks okay to me. Though it's advisable to have a dual core CPU, your rig will run just fine IMO. Just curious, how did you get your Windows Vista Ultimate for free?

T.T My vista on my lausy notebook ain't exactly running that badly.... ^^ Still not considering to downgrade back to WinXP

Vista is said to be far better if all the support software and driver is here by now.

My pakteh bought it last week (RM670) at Seremban..but then he bought another computer..apple mac I think. So I asked him if I could use it temporary.. but luckily he said " Ko amik jela guna" So happy lo save my money.

I tested the advisor program and it advised me vista business (but I only have ultimate). Hopefully my rig will run it smoothly..

Will buy another C2D PC this sept. or should save money and upgrade proc to Pentium D instead?

i'd say go for 2cd.
pentium d will just throttle your graphic card. damn it..

i try to put my gf pic on my wallpaper but her pic is 800x 600 so i want try to put as background on my window vista when i press as background. The wallpaper enlarge and cover the whole background how can i adjust the wallpaper background size? window xp got the option that could change my visat i could't find anyone know ?

right click mouse on desktop >> personalize >> Desktop Background >> how should the picture be positioned ? . there have 3 box there you can choose.

ya that the problem that i say we can't put the pic according to the size we like only got 3 option window xp got more option that make me really sad -.- could't not see my gf face if put as background look ugly also

HELP!

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 6400 loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm not familliar with the security "features" just yet. I feel that's the culprit for some programs to not work e.g. Skype, Azureus, Limewire

When I load Skype, my internet connection automatically hangs, Skype itself won't connect. For Azureus, tracking fails. And Limewire doesn't connect.

Makes me wanna install XP and let Vista "mature" before reinstalling. I don't even know how to do that.

Please advice on how to deal with the security, and maybe how to delete Vista.

Yup, all the same.. no porblem using other player. My problem is exactly like this

The error happens most often when a video file is done playing and I close
the player. Immediately after closing the player I receive a pop-up saying
that "Windows Media Player has stopped working". The problem event name is

1)How to share folder in a workgroup?I found it kinda hard to set.I can view shared folder in WinXP pc.But from WinXP,I can't view shared folder in Vista

Could it be caused by improper installation of windows,but you could always dl the wmp11 from ms and reinstall it,see how is the output.

wmp 11 comes with Vista and there is no way to get
rid of it or reinstall it. If you need to reinstall media player you have to
reinstall Vista.

Hoho..successfully installed Vista ultimate on my old rig..now running very smooth.. only my graphic section score low 3.8..other parts 4.5 and 5.5..

Installed Ultimate but flash back to XP due to some software compatibility issue have to keep the disc and use it later in the future

for case like adriankhoo153, i also think its codec problem..I use K-Lite codec full and everything's Ok but my friend on vista basic had problems like adriankhoo153...but after reinstall..everything Ok.

My system will crash randomly. I will got BSOD stating that the error is caused by nvstor.sys.

Quick search online reveal that it's caused by Nvidia's driver. I'm using nForce motherboard with Nvidia GPU. The problem is supposed to be fixed with upcoming Windows Update though Microsoft currently doesn't have any ETA on when the fix will be.

I try install Vista home basic on my Pentium 4 3.0ghz 1gb ram, but i got conflict with driver issue.. It will says "unknown OS" ..

Are you using drivers for Windows XP on Vista? You need to use drivers meant for Windows Vista.

wanna ask here...i overclocked my proc...then during boot screen...the green loading bar suddenly freeze..i dunno why...if not oc...nothing happened...

lol. first time overclock? try upping the speed more. u will get corrupt windows installation

for your problem, decrease the speed lower by few megahertz till can successfully boot into windows. then try stressing the pc for stability

It means you overclock until it's no longer stable. Nothing to do with vista actually. Your solution is:
1) Do not overclock
2) Reduce clock speed
3) Increase V core-can be dangerous for beginners

reset to stock speed then.

Can i like just uninstall the previous codec pack and intall klite? Will it work? Hmm, no point of asking this. gotta try myself la.

i heard that klite is hard to uninstall, as it may still mess somewhere in system folder and registry,
CCCP is recommended as it is lighter in size, and less intefering with system, but i am not using it now

My previous er i mean now using XP Codec. Using it mostly to open rmvb file as well as .avi la. CCCP codec huh? Nv heard b4. I thought of installing StormCodec too..

All codec pack are mostly teh same really, with the distribution are different. K-Lite Mega is teh favourite as it includes all teh needed codecs in one package thus if you can't play the files, it's the file problem. Most like CCCP includes just basic codecs that you need. Heck, you can even download the codecs seperately.

if u want to share a folder in vista, try the following steps. (before that, you MUST be able to see your vista pc from your winxp pc eg. both of them must be in the same workgroup)

1. go to control panel > network and sharing center
2. make sure file sharing is turn on and password protected sharing is off
3. right click on the folder that you wanted to share
4. click on share
5. on the drop down menu, choose Everyone (if you don't have that, create one), then Add
6. then click share
7. right click on the same folder, click properties
8. go to the tab Sharing
9. click Advanced Sharing
10. tick on Share this folder
11. click on Permissions
12. you should be able to see Everyone in the group and usernames box
13. tick full control for that group
14. then apply

it should work...post any problems you may find...

You need to set the permission right, there are several choice to set the permission for sharing files which is different than XP. If don't know set as 'everyone' will do as previous forumer posted.

Added on March 31, 2007, 6:06 pmI had a copy of NERO OEM that come with the DVD burner purchased but it seems like can't install into Vista due to compability issue. It just won't let you to start the installation process.

Anyone facing it?

I think most of the DVD burner in market nowadays bundled with older version of Nero, which isn't Vista Compatible just yet.

You can get newer version, or use alternative like Ashampoo

Something weird happening today, when I install my Windows Vista at my second pc , and I try activate the key that I already use in other pc and it works.
I thought only can register for once per key.

I dont think that MS would likely to be fooled too long
