may i know who consulted you? did you actually told them you want the free trial when you got there? From what you said, you actually just dislike the membership counselor staff, not True Fitness gym.
Yes some of the staffs may get a little pushy and annoying when it comes to signing u up, but i think other gyms' are almost similar anyway. And yes, I have come across such staffs. You just have to find a counselor which is honest and not so pushy, best through friend's recommendation or experience

This was how it went:
Someone called Chelsea called up to talk about True Fitness and ask me to drop by for a free week trial. I said I wasn't free around that time, so maybe I'll make an appointment when I'm free. She continued to call up frequently, so one day I made an appointment. She told me to remember to bring my workout clothes, and do bring more friends along, they will get free trials too. So I brought along 2 of my friends there. Once there, I asked for Chelsea, and was shown to this gal called Peggy Law. Peggy said Chelsea wasn't available, so she'd show us around instead. So we followed her around the gym area, then she brought us to the waiting lounge (which was dark with spinning globe lights and little round tables and chairs - like a disco), asked us to fill up some forms, asked us about our fitness targets, and proceeded to show us the membership packages and asked us to sign up. We were like, what the fork?! We asked for the free trial and she said, "today is the last day of the promo, so it's pointless to give you the trial". Of course, we were just there to look around and check it out, so we told them directly. Then came the usual pushy sales attitude (the kind you normally see done by MLM-ers).
"But what's stopping you from deciding now?"
"I'm sure you're old enough to make decisions by yourself, right?"
"We're not selling you gym memberships, we're selling you a lifestyle."
"We can call your credit card bank boss and negotiate for a better payment options." (or some crap like that, I don't remember, I only distinctly remember she said call up the boss of the bank of our credit cards)
"Is it a money problem?" (we shook our head) "Then it's useless to offer you a membership even for RM50 a month, right?" (such sarcasm)
She also proceeded to fetch her 'boss' to talk to us. Nothing special about the boss, talks crap like her also. We can feel the words jumping out at us - "COMMIT. PAY. NOW." We insisted that we need to check out other gyms first, so finally (reluctantly), she let us have some free 1-week trials. But by then, it was already too late, we were pissed off already. We just let them make appointments for trainings or whatever, and then left and never went back.
I was an ex-member of Fitness First (2 years+ there, signed-up when Maxis branch opened) and would much prefer the brightly-lit and cheerful environment of FF. TF is just not for me, even without the sales talk - it has no convenient parking, I need to go through a toll to get to it, it's dark (probably to enhance it's 'coolness'), it's expensive, and it requires a yearly payment.
No offense to you, popsicle, I'm glad and happy you're enjoying yourself there. But my first visit already formed a very negative impression on me, so I have to say that I really hate True Fitness. I have no doubt the staff were purposely trained this way, and it's most probably not their fault also. I think Chelsea and Peggy were divided by their work functions - one to make the phone calls, and one to show you around and make you sign up. Their sarcastic and desperate attempts at the 'glamourness' and 'poshness' of the gym are really pathetic ("oh it's a
lifestyle"). You probably didn't encounter such attitude because you were already ready to sign up anyway, or you were luckier and encountered some less crappy salesgirl.
So sorry if I offended anyone, but this is just my experience and I'm just sharing it. You may very well have better luck with TF.
