what about the bitdefender 9 firewall? anyone here using it? mind sharing your experiences?

currently trying winpooch 0.5.10, which i realize hv smaller memory footprint than kerio pf v 2.1.5 and more choice.
winpooch = 29xxK - 30xxK
kpf v2.1.5 = 4xxxK - 5xxxK (somewhere around that)
d only issue is it doesn't hv any manual, n tips only done briefly. with default filter setting, u wont get anywhere. oh yes, its freeware

i cant really figure out how to configure Active armor on my nforce4. currently using ZA with active armor software not installed. any in depth guide about this?

Do i need to turn off Windows Firewall after installed third party Firewall ?

btw.. which of these uses the least system resources and can perform well in the firewall

i am using NOD32 now(i wiuld rate this 2nd best)
...using less memory resources as compared to Kaspersky(the best as many people attest)

Gagh, I'm annoyed with ZA

Friggin long startup with ZA installed, how can this be favourite?

I have the same problem but even worst ZA and McAfee Virus Scan dont get along. ZA crashes...

ZA seems not popular now...and I also don't like the software now too..since the startup takes some time ...and I need to wait around 1-3 mins before I can start my work ...

anyway...what other firewall software you guys using...and whats your guys recommendation? I've tested Outpost..but...damn, too much rules to set ...and the interface it's not really friendly

Currently using ZA personal firewall but IMHO , u need to know a bit on routing to configure it properly.

need your opinion, do you enable windows firewall or install 3rd party firewall if your router already provide firewall feature? overkill? thks~

sotong168: If you have 3rd party firewall, i.e.: ZA..it will automatically disable the built in Windows Firewall..if not, better disable it to avoid conflicts

Hardware firewall?..it doesn't hog your system resources..just your connection speed

sygate firewall is simple & free.

FYI, there is no more sygate, it's company been bought and "plug" into symantec...

sygate gone case ady... Switch to other firewalls as no more support has been provided for sygate...

the firewall itself is still better than norton's

I probably would use either Look n' Stop or Outpost v3.51 if I switched firewall

any ideas how to configure a firewall to unblock a network comp from accessing the internet gateway(in which the firewall is installed)?

tat will depends on what firewall, every firewall has its own setting style
but most firewalls I tried can auto detect the "safe zone", which should allow those connected to the network to get to the gateway??

Outpost Firewall sure protects me a lot...better than bloated ZoneAlarm...

only the bad side is, new user will easily get confused with the configuration

There's sure no which one is better than the other one.
It all depends on the user itself, thou sometimes performance wise there might be a slight difference.

It's because outpost firewall isn't that friendly compare to zonealarm, hard to understand and configure..

Yeah, I had my hard times configuring it for my online game...
It's not user friendly, esp for newbies.
But not long after that things turn out easier.

I can't use Zone Alarm Pro, it always popup error warning wanting to close down the TruVector service whenever I'm downloading via BitComet... then the program will gone idle but with internet connection still enable... any idea how to solve it??

I get this all the time with ZA free version. Suggest alternative software. I used SPF before, but Norton has bought Sygate.

I'm now using Look'n'Stop... quite a nice firewall, light... not a freeware though... and the rules set configurating could take a while if u r not used to it =/

luckily I still manage to get all my rules set figure out, and now it's working nice and steady =)

I prefer outpost than zonealarm...and outpost firewall sure perform well

there is no "best" in sense of firewall as well as anti-virus software... all u can do is read more reviews on them and try those you find suit your needs, that would be the "best" for u

My outpost pro trial expired, I'm trying Look n Stop, will post my feedback soon.
