Running CPU at full load is quite taxing. Electric bill will sure to shoot up and might suffer system instability tongue.gif Anyway, i have just joined folding@malaysia to help crunch some data tongue.gif
net_cow
Thanx for support and joining us.
Running CPU full load isnt really taxing as the folding is running on priority idle and not AboveNormal.
Electric bill will much plus minus the same as idle processor
do use as much Watts comparing to fully 100% usage.
Theres no pinpoint as will shoot up dramatically as your pc already on 24/7 smile.gif smile.gif
Folding is another way to show the stability of the system.
Its rather be prevention rather than cure. Its good to know how stable is your systems and
have solution for it if not stable rather than the systems dying slowly without the user know smile.gif smile.gif

And you don't HAVE to run your PC 24/7. As long as it's on it will be quietly crunching numbers in the background. Just install it, and let it go. Very unobtrusive. smile.gif

Ok, here's a brief explanation.
(Guys, please correct me if I have left anything out).

For many decades, scientists have relied on trial and error to produce new drugs, because they cant quite predict what one drug will do to a certain disease.

Then, some smart fellow discovered that quite alot of our problems come from the construction of our genome (dna stuff) and other cellular bodies in our system.

They also figured out that the way a drug influences our dna is how it cures (or kills us).

Some smart fellow also found out that most of these ca be modeled and processed using computers. However, it takes a million years for even a fast supercomputer to process it. So, they figured that if they chop up the data into tiny pieces, send it to participating computers, they can can get alot more done. This is commonly known as Grid Computing.

In fact, using a million "slow" computers ended up so fast, that they managed to map out the whole human genome is many years faster than they predicted.

If in particular you are wandering why they use the word "folding", it is because they are trying to predict how a protein "folds" into different shapes when acted upon by a stimulus. In some cases, the stimulus could be a disease, or it could be a medicine.

I hope I have not oversimplified it, or made a total mess of the description. Hope I have helped you, and not confused you even more tongue.gif

nothing special in setting up a subteam. just choose a username and have more than 1 PC's folding under that username, then your points will increase drastically (compared to single PC)

Are you guys sure folding at 100% won't take up more watts and is not taxing... becos one of my folding machine is a laptop and running F@H will cause a very audible humming (if idle it's silent) and battery life only lasts like 50% compared to if I just surf net and do some other stuff.
(N)3
mine is plugged in premently to AC power

Quit the GUI client before loading the game, load it back afterwards. I also can't explain why it happens. Maybe due to the Folding client & the game kiasu over CPU resources tongue.gif

the humming sound coming from the proc fan
while folding cpu resources is used up to 100%
so due to the heat produced the fan need to rotate faster to get more air to cool down the processor.
btw please use permanent A/C adapter to power up ur notebook if you doesnt move it.
maybe while you on the go you can turn off the folding only turn back on when back at home smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
