wow, 2 emg users using 85 in the bridge..
is 81 really that bad? but all the review about 81 ive read so far are great review..ive even test it once, to me it sounded just fine..
i dont no, bcoz i started to play around with pups just recently..
maybe im still cannot differentiate what is a good tone n whats not..
rossie, so either 85 or 60 in the neck is ok la..
so i think im gonna go with 60 in the neck, even everdying using 60A..
anyway, thanks guys..

Again, all depends on the playing style.
I'm using the classic 81/85 combo and for my Metal playing, it suits be fine with a little bit of the "bite" the 81 is famous for.
Rossie
Jul 3 2008, 04:55 PM
No prob... The 81 is great if you do intend for your axe to do metal and nothing else, but for the sake of versatility, the 85 works really well in the bridge position...
afad
Jul 3 2008, 07:52 PM
yep, now im playing nothing else but metal..
maybe some hard rock, but most of the time metal..
so 81 it is..
Everdying
Jul 4 2008, 01:04 AM
my metal guitar also has the EMG85 in the bridge.
also a pickup thats not made for metal can be used, its just what u want.
look at mark morton of lamb of god, his guitar has two duncan '59s.
those are nowhere near metal pickups, yet they do fine.
Rossie
Jul 4 2008, 09:01 AM
SD Alnico II Pro can do metal just as well too

hmmm, SGD135 is cheap but when u count in all the cost to go there..
it'll be about around the same price with here..
so i think ill just search the pups here..

the 7% tax is GST - good and service tax i think.

Yes, I mean the Singapore Sales Tax, aka GST.
And the ZW set and the 81/85 set is the same.

oh ok, i thought ZW combo are modded version of the 81/85

..
btw, most of the emg pups here doesnt includes prewired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, screws and springs and battery clip set, n do i need all those items if i wanted to change my pups or i can just use the stock one..
if i do need them, where can i get them..

The only difference of the ZW set and 85/81 are the ZW sets have longer shaft for the pots, thats bout it IIRC

the one im talking about is used one that is selling in garage sale..
it is mention there it comes with EMG's exclusive quick connect cable only..
for 81/85 ZW set..so the package is not complete la??

Jul 8 2008, 05:23 PM
basically the zw set has longer cables to facilitate LP's
blacktrix
Jul 8 2008, 05:51 PM
Please check the EMG websites before you go any further:
Package Includes: EMG's exclusive Quik-Connectâ„¢ cables (2), 25k long shaft volume/tone controls (2), 25k split shaft volume/tone (standard) controls (2), screws & springs. Also a removable Zakk Wylde Postcard on the box and 1 EMG / Zakk signature collectable guitar pick.

ive check the emg site before, thats why im asking u guys..
because in the garage sale, that seller said the package includes
EMG's exclusive quick connect only..
there's nothing about prewired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, screws and springs and battery clip set..
and do i need those items if i wanted to changed my pups..

its pretty obvious then that the garage sales one isnt a full set.
obviously would mean its a used set too.
and yes, u need the pots and output jack.
u may need the screws also.

just wanna ask a noob question coz im new with electric guitar.. my frens gimme one of his old guitar as a gift.. it's not one of those expensive guitar coz i never heard the brand name before (monterey mgs-1).. is it worth to change pups for a better one, or should i buy a better guitar?? i guess my really question is how important does the pups really are on a guitar??

Some quick questions, which pickups sets are good or well known for down tuning guitars? I know many metal users prefer active pickups, some uses Invaders (Pepper Keenan) and of course there's DSonic (Petrucci).
And does anyone actually plays clean more with a down tuned guitar?

Wow, you won't believe the difference between a stock pickup and a D'Marzio or Seymore Duncan until you make the change.
What a world of difference when I upgraded from my stock Ibanez pups to DM Tonezone and PafPro in my RG (Japan)! More sustain, better tone and way more clarity. I've been playing for a while though so I can appreciate the tonal upgrade.
My suggestion is, since you're a beginner, just stick with the stock pickups and stick to practicing to improve your playing, etc. Once you get better, you can shop around for a better axe since pickups are only a small part of the package - i.e. type of wood, quality of wood, tuners, bridge, etc all play a part in the overall sound. Hell, even your amp is very important!
Bottom line is you pay for what you get and by putting a Ferrari engine in a Proton, it doesn't mean you will get supercar performance. Good luck!

most of you all might disagree with me ..
but i think pickups and playing ..are the ones that REALLY affect your tone ..
lousy guitar ? get EMG ..you will be ok ..
lousy amp ? cmon , a dimarzio on a marshall mg isnt that bad ..
a good amp and a good guitar , with china made microphone pickups and bad playing , will never sound good

that time there was resi , freepower , master of shred etc...all of us got so sick of it ..
we made a small private forum , shredder invasion ..then it died..and dono what happened already

lulz.. thank for both comments

i'm still learning bass right now and received that guitar from a friend as a gift..
so i think i'll stick with the guitar as it is for the time being coz i wanna concentrate on bass and only touch the guitar like once a week

when i'm ready to take guitar seriously, maybe i'll change the pups 1st and see how it goes..
if it turns out to be not so good, i might get a new axe and use that pups on it
