Please don't do that to a Taylor...
It will most probably sound like crap...
blacktrix
I second that...... It's a waste to install such crappy pickups into a bloddy wonderful guitar.

Before you go off..... I AM a heavy epiphone/gibson fanboy........ but I just think that their pickups suck....
echobrainproject
just epiphone pickups

gibson pickups like the burstbucker pro i love it to bits

I know dude, but I'm desperate and my wallet is empty. Well, Kurt did just that for that wonderful martin d-28 or d-18.

haa...that big baby ain't that wonderful anymore after I've tried the full blown Taylors. Anyway, I can upgrade the pickups when I have more money.
So right now I just wanna know how to assemble the pickups.

Well actually I don't quite like Gibson's P-90 pickup on LP juniors... Sounds kinda flat sometimes, too snappy sometimes. But there's no doubt about the legendary humbuckers on other LPs

So pls help me out as soon as possible. I need the Big Baby to fit thorugh an amp by 2 weeks sweat.gif
Rossie
P90s are not humbuckers, they are single coils, of course it will sound snappy... But they are a tad thicker than singles...

The magnetic pickup will make your Taylor sound like crap, no doubt about it... It's best that you get a removable soundhole pickup or something that won't do any permanent damage to your guitar...

Artist can mod the hell of their gears (good or bad) because first, they got them for free; second, money ain't an object for them...

I don't know dude but I seem to like the amplified sound + the acoustic sound when played clean or a little bit of chorus effect. I don't know it's me or what but the tone seems to be thicker this way and it sounds more layered.
echobrainproject
btw any recommendations for a removable soundhole pickup? and how much they cost.
Equilibrium777
JS has the DiMarzio NaturAL Acoustic if im not mistaken. . . quite famous

fishman also offers a few. . .

depends on your budget tho. . . fishman and lr baggs are famous brands. . .

but no baggs dealer here. . .

woh fat has budget ones. . .

ive never heard the DiMarzio but the fishman are good. . .
Rossie
The Dimarzio one is quite cheap... It's like a sticker, just stick it to the top of your guitar and you're good to go...
Everdying
i remember seeing a seymour duncan one for around RM300+.

so u likey to follow trendy?

But the Jazz and JB combo is really good.
Tried it before, Complements each other well.
Everdying
yea, change to seymour duncans...BLACKOUTS tongue.gif
blacktrix
Aiyo...... if you're going for Blackouts, I'd rather go for the EMG combo....
Everdying
but i already have 2 guitars with EMGs...AND i got another spare set of EMGs lying around...overdose already.
i seriously wanna get the blackouts soon tongue.gif
SweetTooth
for those active pickup users, how long before you have to change batteries? consider the amount of playing time too..
Everdying
for EMGs, the manual or forgot where i read it says, even if you play everyday say about 1-2hrs...your next battery change will only be in the next 6-9 months.
SweetTooth
how about your own personal experience?
Everdying
i dont play enough...so even 1yr on the batt is still going strong.
MirzA
Any idea how much a DiMarzio are '58 or air norton S will cost?

k here's the choices:

which pair would u guys choose?
1. jb/59
2. custom5/59

gonna put them into my epi. biggrin.gif

thnx.
sean392
i have a JB/59 combo
i'd to say that the 59 is not the most spectacular neck pickup around, tho it hits the oldie PAF tones pretty well =) perfect for blues but not much of other stuff i'd say, not so suitable IMO.
JB wise in the bridge, sounds very good. The strong mids on the lp mixes very well with the slightly scooped low-mid freq of the JB.

custom5, i haven't tried that b4, so i can't say.

all i can add is if you play classic rock or blues, the 59 is really really nice, but if you want an all rounder i think the jazz would do a better job.
but then again, i only tried the jazz in alder bodied guitar, so i might change my mind if i hear a jazz in a paul.

hope that info from a not so experienced person can help biggrin.gif cheers
enteryourusername
hey thnx. neck pups ar..... jazz nicer for slash's-like tone than 59? other than alnico2. biggrin.gif

any other comments?

lai rossie, u noe i listen to ur advise a lot. lol.
strinq
JB/59 cuz i've tried it on an LP and it is oh so sweet, the output matches well and dunnolah, just nice lol
sean392
yeah, note that JB isn't the hottest around.
but its just nice for me =D

Yeah man, I like how the JB sounds. But itching to get a new ax to have sonic variations. Looking for some alder bodied guitar. YUM biggrin.gif
Anyway, have you tried Dimarzio Super Distortion in an alder bodied guitar? How does it sound?
strinq
I have a Super D but its on my RG Prestige which is made of basswood.
Smoking...

And the Paf Fred and Paf Pro on my JS1000 which is also made of basswood.
I like this even better, Satch really knows what he wants.

I WANT an SZ4020!
whistling.gif
sean392
thing is im no big fan of basswood, its a neutral sounding wood to me =/
i want something brighter like alder.
crazychris
my bass is basswood

but basswood are famous more mids
tats y satriani, vai, petrucci use basswood for their axe
RootOfJesse
hey wanna ask...the middle position for this 3 way switch pickup is two single coil
used together is it?..does it retain the single coil sound...or is it still humbucker?

should be humbucker
easy way to test, just push the gain higher and see if its quiet like a humbucker or not
crazychris
i tink its a humbucker in series mode
im nt tat gud in electronics haha

I just swapped a Fred/Pafpro too in my RG, good balanced tone with lots of harmonics and versatile enough for a wide range of styles. Sounds pretty good splitted also.

I think they are wired out of phase, (not in series) to give you that Strat in-between (positions 2/4) twangy sound.
SweetTooth
is it possible to get dimebuckers in singapore? i'm sure malaysia dont have it..
also, how would it compare to an x2n in the bridge?
valkyrie1232
On the contrary, I've seen Dimebuckers for sale in Bentley before. smile.gif
SweetTooth
i've gotta make a trip down to kl this december then thumbup.gif
but i read dimebuckers are shit anyways.. but gotta hear them myself to see how it fairs flex.gif
led_zep_freak
First you ask where to get Dimebuckers, then you say it's shit... have you been spending too much time reading online reviews? laugh.gif I thought SPM still going on? xD
blacktrix
Dimebuckers are quite high gain and very high on the treble side.
I think for you, you'll need EMG 81/85 man......... SAVE!

AND FOR GODSAKES, GET OFF THIS FORUM AND START STUDYING!!!!!!

lled1975
dear all,

i got a question abt PUs too, i got a SSS start, now i need more sustain, metal kinda sound, which Pickup should i change? assuming this link http://www.instruments2go.co.uk/Fender-Ame...HSS-p-1966.html

the guitar above is a start HSS, the humbuckers pickup (near to tremolo) is called bridge pickup rite? then the neck pickup is that one near to the fret board rite?

sorry being a noob again, for the switch selector, the 1st postion (nearest to Volume knob) is for Neck pickup? and the lowest position 5 is for bridge pickup rite?

so if want want more heavy sound, which pickup should i change, The bridge pu, middle pu or neck pickup? (plan to change 1 only), and can anyone recommend a nice pu for me? maybe Seymour or Dimazio... oh ya, forgot to mention, i will change back to Single coil, not going to mod the body, thanks all !
