what re-routing is needed?
Equilibrium777
Apr 3 2007, 10:38 PM
actually no rerouting is needed. . . so shouldn't be a prob for the EMG's if you really want. . .
BUT! since i'm a DiMarzio Supporter i say GO TONE! lolz. . . but for 7 string's DiMarzio has the best versatility =D

Really no rerouting required? Ok... maybe it has something to do with the size of the EMGs? I remember reading that some body work is required to install EMGs in the 1527...

it depends on how pro the guy in can do it lar. . . definately wiring got changes. . . the only prob is the battery compartment. . . it seems that there is a way to hide it. . . not sure how. . . but yea. . . if the guy is pro enough then he can do it without changing your guitar. . .
but ive also seen some that says that changes needed to be done cause the pup cant fit . . . you gotta ask bentley on this but when i asked before they said no probs

i c i c...
Thing is, I also like the fact that EMGs are bloody quiet pups when you don't play - I can really crank up the gain on my GT-8 and not worry so much about feedback when I don't play. I'm a bit worried that the X2N-7 may not be as quiet...

Hey Eq777, I'm a Dimarzio Whore too!
Currently using Steve's Special and PAF Pro. As 7 string pickups, which is good for tight and clear rhythm on the bridge as well as singing leads for neck?
I think I'm pretty much leaned towards the Evo 7 for bridge but a bit clueless for the neck side though.

You can always order online, their pickups are made to order so you could specify any changes or modifications. The shipping itself isn't too pricey and I doubt the local customs would impose a sales tax on a pickup.

the pup doesnt work on its own. . .
you need the GR20 or another MIDI compatible device. . .
GT-8.and those others work with it too. . .
it's pointless if you dont have a COSM / MIDI device to utilize the pup. .

guys,
i think this is the right thread for me to ask these question. Here goes:
I own an SX LP Copy

. It's a set neck version (i know, i know, it's still a cheapo LP

). My burning question is, is it worth it to change the humbuckers? Would it bring significance difference?
if yes then i think i wanna get the Slash combo. I read from SD website he uses SD APH-1 Alnico II humbuckers (neck n bridge). On the other hand i do love the Megadeth metal sound. Mustaine uses SH-2 for neck n SH-4 for bridge. Is there any way i can combine alnico n say SH-4 for my git? i'm a big fan of gnr n megadeth. I don't think i wanna get any other guitar at this moment (my other half only limit me to one git...forever

...but if i change the pups she would have absolutely no idea about it

). so i can't have 1 git having slash set up n the other having mustaine set up. or, if i get the slash combo for GNR orientated songs and use my Zoom G2.1U to get that metal sound.
I've made my initial calculation. With the average of rm380 per pup, installation, guitar reworking/tweeking it wud add up to RM1K. i saw one add in leleong, i think the guy's nick is munkee. he sells pickups n do servicing as well. any idea about this guy? or is he in this forum

...anyway, is 1K worth all the fuss? my SX was only around 700

.

Raja Utara.... Mustaine rarely use his neck pickup... he uses bridge pickup most of the time. You can try SH-4 for the bridge, and Alnico II on the neck (Slash's solo).
But then again... Mustaine doesn't use an LP
Everdying
Apr 23 2007, 06:48 PM
since its a LP guitar with 2 vol and 2 tone controls.
you can match pickups anyhow you like.
mustaine USED to use the SH2 SH4 combo, now hes using active versions of it based on the SD livewire.
anyway that SH2 SH4 set should also be able to get the slash sound without any probs.
btw, munkee is a reseller.
just FYI, SD pickups are about SGD99 each in singapore.

SD Livewire Dave Mustaine Signature Series to be precise

Apr 23 2007, 07:02 PM
i was thinking of getting the SD livewire mustaine set even tho i dont like mustaine much (cos hes a delusional frontman like axl).
but now since SD has released a new active pickup set, the Blackouts.
so im gonna go get that instead now
blacktrix
Apr 23 2007, 07:06 PM
And don't forget.... both Slash and Mustaine both have VERY different tones.
Slash goes for more tone rather then gain, while Mustaine is all about Gain Gain Gain.....
Slash has a very warm, close to the Les Paul type tone with medium output. The Mustaine livewire (or even the new Blackout) is almost more towards EMG Actives territory.
Everdying
Apr 23 2007, 07:12 PM
umm, he didnt say anything about the mustaine livewire, i did

actually hes thinking of getting the SH2 SH4, ie. mustaine's old setup.
SH2 - jazz, SH4 - jb.
so yes, that old set can pull off slash stuff with no prob.

Apr 23 2007, 07:16 PM
Oh. Whoops. Me and my caffeine fueled brain....
Yeah.. the classic JB/Jazz combo is a classic. I have that on my RR3 and absolutely LOVE it..... very much contrasting my EMG Actives on my LPs.... which is just the way I like it.

Yeah...i know...mustaine now uses his signature Dean FV.
So, no problem in combining Alnico II and SH-4 right? Would that be a good combo or is it just 'funny'?

really? that combo can get the Slash warm tone?
is munkee a recommended guitar handyman? or do you have any other recommendation? maybe you can do it?
SGD99 is about RM225. so that wud add up to rm450. wow...that is a lot cheaper! is there any way I could kirim that stuff from anybody here? anyone going to SG?

Apr 24 2007, 12:11 PM
normal setup i can do, but i only do for my own guitars.
im not bothered to do for anyone else unless i know them.
best is to send to tham, his number is somewhere around here, do a search.
munkee have no idea on his work, and from what i know he works in mahagony.
and i dont like mahagony.
end of story.

? dang...it must be expansive then. feel a bit malu to send my cheap guitar for him to tweak.
so....should i go for sh-2 n sh-4 combo or should i go with alnico n sh-4 combo?
anyone giong to SG?

well EMG's are powerfull and loud. . . it has that in your face kinda attitude. . . EMG users swaer by it =) if you play hard on metal with heavy power chords and blistering loud solos that pierce then be my guest =D
DiMarzio's have less power but more tone. . . you get more dynamics in terms of tone and variety in what you want. . . of course the only pickup close enough to the EMG Actives are the D-Activators and X2N. . . but again. . . if you want high output and powerful stuff then go EMG. . . if you're looking for more tonal variety i suggest DiMarzio
what guitar are you using?

It depends on what you want from your pickups.

Active EMGs are famous for their sheer power and hum-free operation. They're great for heavy stuff, riff-ing especially. Their clean sounds however, are on the sterile side compared to the passives. Then again, not many EMG players use clean often.
Most shredders swear by DiMarzios and it's not hard to see why. Their high-output pickups are powerful enough to drive the amp into shred territory yet it retains the guitar's acoustic tone.
