this is the part where i say, do a search.
anyway SD livewire, classic or metal, brand new price is SGD125 each at davis.
so the set will be double that, SGD250.
i know there was one set at davis during the slayer show last yr

just take note that HMET set is 18V.
the mustaine set is 9V, and its bridge emulates the SD JB, but no white set.
the livewire metal bridge in the HMET set has no usable clean sounds.

Which direction did you put the pole piece of your D-Sonic? And did you try the other side? Getting mine in June when my mate coems back from the states. . .

bought online.
i put mine: pole pieces towards the neck, bar towards bridge. this direction supposed to have more clarity and definition (which is what I was looking for). the other direction i didn't try, as it's supposed to be warmer and more bassy.

I bought from here...

i'm using an

well i mailed them a few times and didn't get a reply. . .
then i tried calling them at 5 am here and they said that the dude was out for some reason or whatnot so i have to call another day. . .
cause you can actually talk to a tech there and he can recommend you what pups to go with what guitars and stuff. . . the 7 string tech wasn't around so i had to call back another day and it costed me liek RM 15 just for like a few mins. . . damn expensive. . . =.=

Apr 1 2007, 03:08 PM
well , i was chatting with the owner of guitar store the other day...
according to him..
the reason why Dimarzios , Gibsons , Fender Japan ? ,etc are so expensive ..
is because of the Malaysian Mentality . Always thinking about themselves
Bargaining like crazy , Buy also go singapore buy , Always "i want the cheapest" price attitude ..
its been happening for a long time...
and what happened ? Guitar Store , LA floresta , Woh Fatt ? they are not making any money for years ..
he says ..in the end..the consumer are the ones that lose out..
If the local distributor isn't making money , they only gears we will be seeing in Malaysia are Gios , Yamaha, MIC epiphone ...cheap gears that can sell..
they wouldn't take the RISK to bring in products that may not sell..
this few years , Bentley tried bringing in Musicman , Guild , Gretch ..and i think the result is very discouraging..and now Electro Harmonix i heard ?
If they put a low price on dimarzios , the consumers are still going to bargain . that will be worse . so they rather remain overpriced with 10% discount .
i don't really agree with him . but well , i have the Malaysian Mentality . it doesn't affect me . i got a sis in U.S ..so me getting gears not really a problem..
In fact , i kinda love the Overpriced Malaysia . You have any idea how you can make a living . by buying and selling used Musical instruments ?

our resale value in Malaysia is quite high , compare to Japan and U.S ...i have seen ESP custom shop strat in ebay going for 600 USD and nobody biding for it
so what you guys think ?
led_zep_freak
Apr 1 2007, 03:39 PM
We're educated consumers, if we don't think for ourselves, who are we supposed to think for lol? And what's the bull with
Malaysian mentality anyway?! If Bentley starts to sell stuff at a much cheaper price than Singapore's, I'm sure Singaporeans would flock to KL and buy from them! Singaporean mentality, anybody?
Everdying
Apr 1 2007, 05:20 PM
it has nothing to do with malaysian mentality, and of cos everything to do with prices.
as a buyer, you should already know what they're suppose to sell for.
you think ppl would want to waste their time to go down SG? or even order from overseas and then maybe have the hassle of going thru customs?
none of this would happen if shops here actually try to match prices.
consumers still wont lose out anyway, as the options mentioned above are still available to them.
it is the music stores that are losing out.
no customers = no business.
Equilibrium777
Apr 1 2007, 08:19 PM
yes. . . if the cost of going down SG and buying it would be more exp then getting it here then ppl wouldn't bother going down sg, but to me, if it's like 100 or 200 more exp then i rather get it here cause if anything were to happen you can go back to the shop to get it done.
and honestly i think bentley is not really overpriced. . . yes they are overpriced but not to the extent of bloodsucking if you actually ask for a disc. . . it would most prob cost like maybe 100 to 300 more then if orderin outstation, but dont forget customs tax,etc etc so in the end it adds up. . . it depends on how you look at it. . .
their duncans are going really cheap, they tried selling me a duncan 7 string pup for a really good price. . . can't remember but as duncans are not famous for their 7 pups so i didn't get them. . . i still think bentley is ok and so is woh fatt and all the others. . . well this is also because i can never afford to go overseas to get gears so yea. .

well bent's have been reasonable with their duncan prices IMHO.
Equilibrium777
Apr 2 2007, 01:15 AM
yea even the EMG's. . . all their pups there are considerably priced. . . and actually cheaper if you exclude the shipping. . . but if you were to ask them to bring 1 in then they will most prob charge you extra
Everdying
Apr 2 2007, 01:31 AM
i wouldnt say their duncans are reasonably priced.
as anyone whos been to SG knows, duncans are SGD99 / RM230 there.
as mentioned before, even the SD livewire is SGD125, over here bentley sells it for RM450.
prices for EMGs tho are sorta ok, as in SG they are SGD135 / RM310, but then that is regardless of what model it is.
over here, it is stupidly priced anywhere from RM380 to RM450 i think, depending on the model.

And besides, it's not like I'm going down to Singapore JUST for the pickups..... I mean, since I'm there, I might as well pick one up.

Equilibrium777
Apr 2 2007, 09:59 AM
well you have a point, unless you're already on your way there then the extra RM50-70 could be the travelling fees to go down to get the thing. . .
and since bent's usually give 10% off so i guess the diff is just around RM50. . .

well try out the X2N it's their highest output pup. . . it's bleeding clear. . . i mean i swear i have 2 friends with em. . . and that pup really shows the potential of the gutiar. . . the pup is clear and powerfull. . . i'm assuming your guitar is maple bolt on right? put in the bridge it will sound bright and it has very good highs. . .
if you looking for a screamer tone, try Humbucker From Hell. . . it's medium output but the tone is good. . . i'm using one, it's clear and brigtht. . . one thing bad is that it really exposes one's playing. . as it is very clear so if you don't pick clean it shows. . . it makes you a better player tho =D
Super Dist if you like the classic sound. . .
D-Sonic if you like sonic versatilty. . .
this pup for bridge or neck?

Equilibrium777

owh you can buy the pup covers so no probs

you can but it in orange or red if you wanted

anyway yes it's passive and has bloody high output. . . it really shows the guitar you're using. . . my firend has it on his vai Jr. . . and the clean is just amazing. . . clear bright crisp sound with a touch of twang. . . hit the OD and it screams

but the magnet pull is a prob so you need someone good to fix the pup or it'll screw the intonation =D
and get push pull's the pup has a fender twang to it lolz

well, the EMG site states its available in black, white or ivory, like the others.
and of cos you got space for the battery.
a strat compartment is so big, just stick it under the pickguard somewhere like what everyone else does.
Equilibrium777

Yeah, I scanned through sevenstring... I'm kinda looking for something that would be close to the EMG81 in terms of output and tone (or lack of it!

).
Seems like the EVO7 is tonally closer to the EMG81, but the X2N-7 is closer in terms of output. And funnily enough, they all said that the X2N-7 sounds more "natural" than the 81... lol... guess anything sounds natural compared to the 81...

should be pretty similar to the EMG85, ie. slightly warmer with less shrill highs than the 81.

Yeah, the EMG707 which is supposedly very similar to the EMG85 and the EMG81-7, which is the 7-string equivalent of the EMG81.
I'm a die-hard EMG fan (FTW!) but I'll need to do some re-routing etc. to fit EMGs into my guitar... and I'm not too keen on that.
Hence, my quest for DiMarzios!
