jus wan to ask how max E8400 cn oc...thnks..
tkh_1001
that will have to depend on what chip u get... if u are lucky u can do around 4.3ghz below 1.4.... but normally most chips shud b able to do 4ghz at around 1.4v....
overclockalbert
most E8400 can do 4Ghz @1.4V. some gems can do it even lower.
ne0cz
E8400 rocks, I dont have one yet, but I will soon get one. Seems not so distant in the future
BurgerRI
the wolfdale's are great OC proc's but of course you need to pair them with nice OC mobo's also...no point grabbing a E8XXX proc and sticking them into a 945 mobo....

(Edited) moved my question elsewhere cos dont think anyone would reply here tongue.gif

being a total noob in oc-ing, i've recently bought an e8400 together with an asus P5K pro with a p35 chipset with intention to learn how to overclock.

1) i know that the e8400 comes as default at 3ghz correct? problem is at default without touching anything cpuz only shows that my proc is running at a corespeed of 334mhz x 6 multiplier which is precisely 2003mhz!

2) i've tried ocing it to 334 x 9 multiplier with asus's overclocking tool and thru bios and the readings i got on cpuz was a strange one.
sometimes it would show the e8400 at 3006mhz(334 x 9) then it would jump back to 2004mhz(334 x 6) and then it keeps on jumping between these two frequencies.

is there a problem here? any sifus care to explain?

help is much appreciated. hopefully no one flames me for my noobness notworthy.gif
bsb85my
i guess it's abt the auto-power-saving system rite?
i rem there's a thread abt this prob here...
correct me if im wrong..

i disabled the C1E but i couldnt find the EIST..but disabling the C1E did the trick. thanks alot bro really appreciate it

Added on June 4, 2008, 2:41 amsorry guys another ques.
so the default out of box frequency of 2ghz is it normal? is this because of asus's utility?
scared i got shortchanged for a faulty card le tongue.gif
D-Zire
default clock speed for E8400 is 3ghz...2ghz is set by ur mobo edi...change it back to 3ghz

check back ur bios bro..set it back

can u suggest which mbo should i'll buy to replace mine existing mobo gigabyte p35 ds3...is it foxcom mars good?or asus pk5?

i need some advice
i'm using DFI blood iron, running E8400 at stock
i use several program to check the temp
at idle, everest shows 52c, but then smart guardian shows 29c only, and the 52c is chipset in smart guardian, real temp showing 48, so which 1 should i believe? cause if its really 52c then i think i gotta remount my hsf edi
-pWs-
Use Realtemp will do wink.gif

all goes back to the bios.. so disabling functions like EIST and C1E does help, also to set the default to manual override so u can clock it back to normal speed smile.gif

normally real temp shud show around 10c lower than everest for core temperature.... smart guardian just show the the temperature of the cpu, not the temperature for the core of the cpu....the core is hotter.....

u shud take readings from real temp as ur guide as its proven to be more accurate....if u are not confident, u can try touch ur heatsink n see if its hot thumbup.gif

remounted my hsf, thought its my mounting is the culprit doh.gif

readings from realtemp, core 1 41c, core 2 39c at idle, my hsf noctua
using orthos to stress cpu now, cpu 1 52c, cpu 2 49, readings ok?

hmm...normally i get around 36-38 in aircond room on stock clock....what thermal paste are u using?

tuniq tx-2 , maybe my thermal paste put not nice or ventilation not good i guess :\
my room is small ,last time i can feel the heat from my pc

i dunno wat the temp of my e84 at stock clock..btw u using wat hsf?stock hsf?if using 3rd party hsf i think ur temp high for stock clock..coz mine 4ghz idle 37-38c in non aircond room..load will b 54-57c

Did you reset the bios?

If so, did you update your bios to the latest version?

Just a warning note.... some Gigabyte P35-DS3 version 1.0 have some problems with BIOS updates.... It is reported in many forums... you might just end up with a dead mobo like I did, had to RMA but they gave me version 2.0 rclxms.gif .....
pirateguy
Have not done any update yet. I can recall seeing my BIOS as an "F2" version. Is that version support to work with the e8400?

No way to update the bios without CPU?

Alamak! F2 is very the old leh.... now already F13i for the Ga-P35-DS3.... See here : http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherb...?ProductID=2544

Cannot kua..... I've never heard of updating a bios of a normal/average mobo without a CPU.... hmm.gif
pirateguy
But even with the F2 bios is it significant enough to cause the entire system unit to not able to function at all? No display but got power.

Update: After updating the bios to F13i everything working fine! rclxms.gif

Not too sure about that....... however, an F2 bios is quite an old bios.... even my 1 year old P35-DS3 was an F3....

Any advice how to overclock a 2.8ghz prescott proc? Noob here.. my mobo can't seem to change these voltage/fsb settings
sakurakinomoto
I want to ask:

I bought a Q9300 (should have bought Q6600 >_>)

FSB now is 1500, why can't I go further?

mobo refuse boot, need clear cmos.

My friend advice me to increase Vcore, but I forgot what's the value I should increase for both NB and Vcore >.<

RAM value RAM >_> only can reach 1000MHz

Q9300 limited multiplier... there is a fsb limit on the proc maybe u hitted it... what fsb and multiplier are u running at? and while overclocking increasing voltage is a must if u wanna go higher..

i guess its easier if u show us some cpu-z.....

run ur ram to 1:1...

maximum advised vcore for peryn is below 1.4v.....

for quad core, u'll need to tweak ur Vtt or Vfsb as well...
sakurakinomoto
Yaya >.<

I dunno how.

Someone showed me the appropriate value to set in Overclocking.

then I tested with 1000MHz FSB on RAM, and it works!

but after I set to 1600MHz FSB for my 9300, the mobo died and everything was reseted.

So now I'm running on 1500MHz for Proc, Stock (800MHz) for RAM

I'm using a C2D E6850 at 3.0ghz. But i'm also using the DP35DP as my motherboard. Is there any way to overclock my processor? I heard that there's no way to overclock Intel mobos sad.gif

Use setfsb but max is about 370FSB biggrin.gif

Oh? That won't give me very much of an increase right? Rather pointless then?

Hi all sifu sifu sekalian,

I'm having some problem on overclocking my proc using my board. (E8400 with P5N32E-SLi).

1st attempt unable to POST. With below settings

FSB Memory clock mode - unlinked
FSB (QDR) MHz - 1600

Memory volt -1.85
1.2HT volt - 1.2
NB volt - 1.2
SB volt - 1.5
CPU VTT volt - 1.2

2nd attempt able to POST but hung at POST. With below settings

FSB Memory clock mode - unlinked
FSB (QDR) MHz - 1600
FSB Memory ratio - Auto
FSB Memory - 800
Vcore volt - 1.25
Memory volt -1.85

sorry, my question will go a bit off topic because i dun wan to open a new thread
my fren is using pentium 4 socket 775, 2x 1gb ddr2 800mhz, gigabyte ep-35 ds3, and zotac 9600GT amp!

apparently there are a few weird things on his pc

1st. His ram is running at 533 only, cpu is running at 3.0ghz with 133x23(which i think the 23 is locked)noob me, his proc is 533 fsb, thats why sweat.gif
2nd. his gc, core speed detected correctly, but memory speed only detected as 1750(using rivatuner, gpu-z couldn't start, no idea why)
3rd. no software can detect the accurate temperature for processor, was using speedfan but not sure how accurate is it(realtemp and coretemp not supported, everest not even showing cpu temp)

hope buddies here can help me rclxub.gif

hello all guru!

i have a problem here. I just bought a gigabyte ma-57sli-ds4 mobo runs by athlon x26400 be with 4gig horsepower. Im still new at this OC thing but ive tried a few on my previous biostar and it works.

With this mobo, everytime i switch the hertz, volts a bit, its stop functioning until i restart several time. Gigabytes overcloaking software also didnt work well. i can only manage to increase 0.1-0.4hgz and the rest it jammed.

Any solution
