just take out the proc and give it to me, ill push it to the limits brows.gif

Yes you can bro. Any procs now can be OC-ed given the stepping is right and u can find the right board for it

Guys, juz changed my stock Intel HSF to TR Ultra 120 Extreme...coupled with Tuniq TX-2 and CM 12" Silent LED fan....my question is, is it normal for my OCed to 3.2Ghz proc to idle @40C and full load @54C for this type of cooler? icon_question.gif sweat.gif

What's your Vcore? I get 33C-35C idle and load can be 60C with IFX-14.

hi all, i quite new in oc world and i need some help in my rig.
i have oc my proc to 3.2 (400 x8). But i planning to go higher, izit possible for me to increase more??
and my voltage is quite high around 1.45v for 3.2Ghz. But i set auto in my bios.
any recommendation for my rig?? icon_question.gif
i using e6750, gigabyte mobo GA-P35-DS4, 4GB ram PC2-6400 (400Mhz) Corsair Ram and winfast 8600 GTS 256mb.

Perhaps you need more Vcore and 1.36V is very little compared to mine - 1.5V biggrin.gif

You can go buy lottery if you manage to burn the hardware under normal circumstances. It's just like striking lottery - not easy to do laugh.gif

@Izwan
u would want to get a better fan than your CM coz Cm fans are bling2 not performance. So its crap/ Having a big cooler like TR doesnt mean that it can be cool either, the fan plays a major role in this type of system, so does the thickness of the pipes/

From 3.2Ghz onwards, you need to increase your vcore some more. Probably 1.375-1.400v to get 3.4Ghz..... See my sig, need 1.425v to get to 3.5Ghz.....

@Kmarc
certain boards cant do Vcore's as low as yours. Like mine, i had to pump 1.40V + onwards for 3.36Ghz onwards.

I know. OC also depends on the PC components. Was just telling Izwan898 that he needs to increase the vcore a bit more to get higher mhz.... smile.gif

1.4V is not high man sweat.gif i did some OC at the Vcore range of 1.45V to 1.55V. BUt not to forget, your GayGayByte rolleyes.gif board is a 6-phaser, so i believe the Vcore needed to pump to 3.4Ghz is lower. brows.gif I had to pump around 1.45V i think to get your speed. After 3.6Ghz on the E6750, in which i used 1.5V, i was scared.

Since you're using a good 3rd party CPU HSF, you can OC higher without worrying too much about the temperature. Just keep your CPU temp below 60'c.....

No safe max OC vcore as any OC (or even without OC!) is a risk...... probably up to 1.40-1.45v would be considered less risky..... smile.gif

Thanks bro!!Gonna get my cpu running at 3.4Ghz but first thing first is changing the crappy CM fan... sweat.gif Anyway, I've set my cpu temp warning @ 60C in BIOS but when I ran Orthos, coretemp shows my temps were 61C n no beep or warning whatsoever came from my pc speaker...anyhoo, GGByte's Easytune5 shows my temps were 45C...which one to trust?Aiyoo till now dunno la!! rclxub.gif

Core Temp should be more accurate.
a1098113
with e6750, coretemp is pretty accurate.. dun use third party stuff supported by the mobo company. Most of the time they r really inaccurate. What you have to look out for, is the TJunction value, make sure its 100, i believe that the e6750 is always 100.

But if they're accurate, why it's not beeping when it passed 60C? Coz I already set my warning temps in BIOS was 60C....

Yeah my proc's TJunction value is 100C....
a1098113
coz i believe that orthos has a pre set temperature which overides the bios when it runs the test.

a1098113
the general rule is that if u r overclocking, at most you need to have the proc lower than 70 degrees centigrade. Then u r safe. thats normally my benchmark for oc. <70.

It has nothing to do with the bios settings. Make sure your 8800GT's fan is not running at stock e.g. 29%. Set it higher e.g. 50-60%, like what most forumers do..... smile.gif

Ya lor, don't be so greedy ma.....

For overclocking, the amount of mhz you can get doesn't go hand in hand with the amount of increased vcore. This means that at lower OC, you will need only a bit of overvolting. When you OC higher than that, you'll find that you need to increase the vcore much much more to gain that little bit of mhz......

Bottom line, I always go for a setup where higher OC results in diminishing returns, if you get what I mean.....

so far i have never killed a chip due to overvoltage, so it's kinda lucky if ur manage to do so. be it intel or amd have d thermal protection thingy so if too much voltage causin high temp d mobo or chip will automatically shutdown d system. smile.gif

for me, a good mobo do what exactly u want it to do, be it undervoltage or overvoltage. laugh.gif
