Apr 5 2007, 09:56 PM
I recently put together a new PC and am interested in overclocking it safely.
-Original CPU/Socket : Intel C2D E6600 w/ stock HSF
-FSB : 1066 MHz
-Multiplier: 9X
-Clock Speed : 2.4 (Default)
-Voltage (CPU/RAM/Chipset/AGP) : Default Auto Detected
-Chipset : NF680i
-Ram Type/Speed/Timings : 2GB of Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D running at 800MHz, 5-5-5-18 w/ Airflow cooler unit
-Motherboard: ABit IN9 32X Max
-GPU: Leadtek Winfast 8800 GTX (Default clock speed)
-Casing: Lian Li PC-A10
Due the the design of the casing, I must stick with the CPU's stock HSF, at most I can only change it to one that has a simillar footprint. I would like to overclock to the following parameters:
Increase clock speed to 3GHz or higher
Current idle CPU temp is 35-40 degrees C, I would like to keep any increase to 5 degrees or less. Even if it means I can't reach 3GHz.
Get the RAM to 5-5-5-15 and 1066MHz (which is its advertised specs), if that's not possible, at least 1000MHz
Without any advice, I'm hesitant to adjust the voltage settings for fear of causing damage. Yet, I read that's the key to optimal overclocking.
I would be most grateful for any advice on how to proceed.

Go to the bios setup of your motherboard, then find these two things: C1E / EIST then disable it.
Then overclock your processor like gila gila.

guys... what is the highest FSB can achieve for DS3? and what is the FSB voltage i should put? +0.1V?
and anyone using Corsair XMS2 ram paired with Gigabyte DS3? what is the vdimm? and the clockspeed achieve for XMS2? my RAM vdimm is currently +0.2V. The max i can go is +0.4, cause once i set +0.5, my system died and i have to reset the bios settings...
i'm trying to reduce my CPU multiplier so I can push the FSB higher... just to see if any performance difference... (lower CPU freq, higher FSB/RAM freq)...
i have actually asked this before but this time, wanna know a 'safe' value to put for my BIOS setting...so if anyone has a 'safe' voltage/FSB speed number as a start for me...then appreciate it... thanks!
Added on April 16, 2007, 3:49 pmwah...idle at 28c? your room got turn on air cond is it?
cause if without air cond, very hard to get 28c leh... that is like nearly ambient temperature already..... your temp inside casing should be higher than ambient....
and in return, Tjunction should be even higher...

if u gonna put past 420fsb, 430 is your case, u should apply at least +0.2 at the fsb/mch. +0.1 only stable at 400fsb i suppose. For memory, its already pass past the 800mhz mark. I see u are using XMS2, any idea what memory chips under the hood? if its Micron/Hynix, u can do 2.1v (+0.3) or else, put 2.2v (+0.4) to maximize stability - this is VERY important.
MCH is the bus located between the CPU and NB. Thats why it needs separate voltage channel to work on..
