heard of tat also... but alluminium coolers are always not enough... need more copper...
QUOTE(sHawTY @ Dec 8 2006, 02:24 PM)
Owh really?
Well then, how can you answer this?
How come all those high end heatsinks tend to use more aluminum instead of copper?
I'm talking about Ultra 120, Infinity, Ninja, HR-01, the only cooper on those heatsinks are on the base, and the heatpipes, while the other things that is on the heatsinks is using Aluminium which is 80% of the heatsink...
Explain that..

QUOTE(Dead__Man @ Dec 8 2006, 11:24 PM)
Copper is heavy, more expensive than alu and doesn't have a high heat capacity compared to alu (which is balanced out by it's capability to conduct heat, nevertheless heat capacity still plays an important role).
Copper is good in absorbing heat while aluminium is good in releasing heat. Go and figure why they use that combination.

This is my first time to overclock a cpu since i just got my new computer. All my previous computer were dell that doesnt allow me to oc anything. Anyway, i was following the guide from this
website. I hope that's ok, and there's a few things i don't really understand.
My computer specs are gigabyte ds3, e6400, 2gb corsair xms2 ddr2 800, epsilon silent 600w and xfx 8800gts.
Yes, i did update my bios to the latest.
My Problems:
Part1. Tidying Up Your BIOSQUOTE
3. Set PCI frequency @33Mhz
I can't seem to find it in my bios.
QUOTE
5. Disable any 'spread spectrum'
What's that?
QUOTE
8. Disable any overvoltage protection
Not sure which 1 issit.
QUOTE
9. Disable 'C1E'
I can't seem to find it.
Part2. Memory AdjustmentsQUOTE
When 1FSB:1RAM is overclocked above the rated frequency of your RAM use the following values
Timing: 5-5-5-15
vDIMM: 2.2V
My timings is 4-4-4-12 with 2.1v. I cant seem to find vDIMM
Part3. VoltageQUOTE
1. Set DRAM/DIMM Voltage (vDIMM) to 2.1V or 2.2V if specified by RAM (+0.3V or +0.4V)
The closest thing i could find was ddr2 overvoltage control and the max for it is 0.7v
QUOTE
2. Set MCH Voltage (vMCH) to 1.55V
I couldnt find vMCH but i could find gMCH, and the max for it was 0.3v.
QUOTE
3. Set FSB Voltage (vFSB) to 1.40V
The max for it is 0.3v only...
QUOTE
4. Increase SB Voltage (vICH) by +0.1V from default-lowest value
I langsung cannot find this.
Any help you guys could give me would really be appriciated alot. Thx alot in advance.

Ok.. Sry to post again, but i just want to make sure im doing everything the correct way. This is my hardware specs first.
PSU: Epsilon Silent 600w
RAM: 2GB Corsair DDR2 XMS2, 5-5-5-12 (i think)
MOBO: Gigabyte DS3
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6400
Ok, this is exactly the steps i did:
1. -Entered the bios.
2. - Disable CPUID Max to 3
- Disable No-Execute Memory Protection
- Disable C1E
- Disable TM2
- Disable EIST
- Disable Virtualization Technology
3. -Disable Smart Fan Control Method
4. - CPU Clock Ratio (CPU Multiplier) at 8x
- CPU Host Frequency (FSB) at 333MHz
- PCI Express Frequency at 100MHz
- Disable CIA2
- System Memory Multiplier at 2.00 (1:1 Ratio)
- DRAM Timing at 5-5-5-12
- *** DDR2 OverVoltage Control +0.2V (2.0V) ***
- FSB OverVoltage +0.2V (1.4V)
- (G)MCH Voltage +0.1V (1.55V)
- *** CPU Voltage at 1.375V ***
5. - Fired up CPU-Z
- Using G15 Keyboard to monitor the temperature
- Fired up SpeedFan to monitor the voltages
- Ran dual Prime95
- Used the ctrl+alt+delete to for the CPU Usage
Could anyone plz tell me did i do anything wrong. Cause im still running it for testing.

your setting seem good enough. Here some tweak on yr current setting:
1) Put FSB OverVoltage = Normal
2) Put (G)MCH Voltage = Normal
These 2 setting should put normal first coz it tend to heat up yr North Bridge and Southbridge. If yr current setting is stable under dual prime95...then is better to set to default value.
Here my suggestion on testing for stability:
1) Alway use Intel Thermal Analysis Tool (TAT) to measure/monitor temperature. Download from here :
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/392/mirrors.php2) Use Orthos to test stability ( alway use small FFTs to test CPU). U can get from:
http://sp2004.fre3.com/beta/beta2.htm3) If U using Stock cooler, is better not to OC too high...Alway control yr full load temperature below 70C
Happy OC..

U cannot do much to lower down yr temp with stock cooler....unless U dont OC..

. U can undervolt but I wont go into that much further since U new in OC...
For ram timing, yr current setting is ok....dun touch on ram timing first..do steps by steps...CPU OC then ram timing..
Runing 1 orthos is enough coz it was designed for dual core proc.

1. check your cooler contact

overclocking e6600 with a cikai brand PSU.. will be very risky. Do read up the stickies concerning overclocking, paying particular attention on the importance of the PSU.
My recommendation - dont overclock. upgrade you PSU first. If you really want to, make sure you've read and are aware of the risks.

I think you installation of the stock fan and heatsink is not done properly.
Check properly whether there a gap between the heatsink and your CPU.
maybe that's why it is hot.
I now OC my E6400 to fsb=380 and the temp is about 58C using zalman 9700.
