having a lil problem over here and hope any of CASO, Clickers or TMNet Authorised agent can help out.
This is my situation here, long story though :

i came to this place called Bukit Beruang, Ayer Keroh Lama in Malacca 6 months ago to attend MMU.
MMU send me to their off campus hostel at Pangsapuri Bukit Beruang, which is under management of a private company called Emerald Park Sdn. Bhd. (www.emeraldpark.com.my)

In the brochure, they state with sweet words that the hostel is equipped with 4Mbps leased line and soon i found out the 4Mbps is not shared per Block, its shared among all three 5storey high hostel that filled up with more than 2000 students, which translated in to 4Mbps/2000 = 0.004Mbps per person or 2Kbps or 2Kbps/8 = 0.256KBps !!!!!

at first i don't care that much since i think that can use then ok already. But soon i found out it's not as easy as i think, the whole network is like a jail.All P2P protocol is blocked, which i could understand cuz if everyone start using P2P, the result can be imagined...what worst is, even protocol like FTP also they block,which generally we cant use the internet for anything other than IM and Webpage Browsing ! That is not all, the internet is not stable at all, when browse net at daylight, its even 10 times slower than 56k dial-up and sometimes cant even reach certain webpage. MSN messenger took like 5minutes to connect and suffer frrequent disconnection. even if it's connected, it's very low chance that the message typed will reach the receipient.

Due to all this problem, i start complaining 2 months ago. They didn't give any reaction. Then i request to apply phone line and install my own broadband, i was rejected immediately. The reason given was that they don't want to do the wiring but in fact, my house already routed with intercom among units, which means the infrastructure is there, wiring is just their lame excuse. After i bring up this point, they gave me another lame excuse. They say if we apply internet and we didn't pay the bill, emerald park will be blacklisted by telekom. What kind of reason is that? As far as i know, we are tenancy and they are landlord, if we apply telephone line it'll sure be our name and not theirs, so if we didn't pay bill, ofcourse telekom is blacklisting us instead of them, but they say the other way round.

Things get worse when 2 weeks ago, all june intake new student start to flood up empty units. The whole network is totally down for few days. I'm really on fire and went up to scold them.They say its nothing to do with them, its my computer problem ! and i start to talk bout the internet problem. Then they said their network management company, which is a small computer shop named microscan said that 4Mbps is sufficient for us and the network got no problem at all.To hell with microscan. They technician don even know how to enable and disable LAN when they fixing my socket for connection ! they aren't qualify for networking technician at all ! After argue for a long time, the manager agreed to talk to the boss of emerald park sdn. bhd. to allow us to install streamyx. But i don't put too much hope on it cause the next day the warden himself tell me that the microscan actually belongs to emerald park's boss's relative, WTF ...

And today, i went up to claim my keys, the manager herself come and approach me and ask me how's my internet. i say not much improvement and i cant access certain website to download things like Windows Vista demo 68seconds video from www.microsoft.com. At the same time the microscan technician, a guy called Peter say they never block it so i should be able to access it. but the fact is i already seen the message generated by the proxy server that says it's blocked. Then i explain what i couldn't download to that "so called peter" and he immediately say : "oh...no one can download video, we restrict it all"
WTF, its only a 68 seconds video which is a few MB only also have to block? i cant control myself and scold a lots of bad words. Then the manager try to cool me down by teling me that they are upgrading the internet soon. She tell me they got 2 solution :

1) Upgrade the leased line from 4Mbps to 6Mbps
2) setup a streamyx wireless AP at each staircase and let us access it at 1Mbps per house.

i immediately agreed with solution 2 cause if make calculation, 6Mbps will make not much different, all of us will still get average 0.384KBps only. But she add up and say, most probably solution 1 cant be executed. The lame reason is - she say streamyx is slow, she can achieve ONLY 2kbps with 1Mbps line (as if i never used streamyx b4) and there is no port available in this area.

But from what i see from naked eyes is, all my friend who found houses and moved out and using streamyx hapily without problem, and there's no thing such as 2Kbps connection ! and there's still a lot of streamyx agent always make promotion around MMU to promote streamyx. I mean, if there's no port available, how come so many promotion for MMU student going on from time to time? i guess it's another lame excuse

We're studying at MMU, subsidiary of telekom groups but we cant install telekom services, just because of this b****y management company.
Most of us here study IT and electronics, but we're stuck with internet that is even slower than 10 years ago.Government is encouraging broadband but we the IT fellows of future cant even "feel" the broadband. They have no right to stop us to have an internet that really works like an internet.

so over here, i'm seeking advise and help from all, especially streamyx agent, how to overcome this hell. and if possible, streamyx agent please help me to check this "Bukit Beruang, Malacca" area whether it's really "Out Of Port"

It is hard to check whether there have any port for Streamyx unless you have the telephone number as the reference for checking!

RM 99 + Monthly Rental , connect to your PC and get Near-broadband speed like..then use some sort of compression....

only way is currently for you is EDGE..unless you are willing to put satelite broadband , then no problem

what an arse....If I were you , I would launch a dDOS attack...sc*** them off fully..and then tell to the network admin that they s*** .....Here are some ways for you

:-

Use a proxy (look , find a proxy which uses port 80..very rare but does the trick)
Launch dDOS attack
Look for open ports (you may never know)

I would launch dDOS attack (2000 ppl...all I need 200 ppl)...to launch a denial of service attack..serves those ppl right !

agent knows nothing la... they only promote streamyx to get commision only.. got port or not only telekom/tmnut ppl will know..

ya, this is the best way, but it's not easy to find a house over here... usually gotta wait till june or december when senior graduate then only got empty house but it'll be booked very fast, unless u know some senior and book the house long before they move away


ya, agent might not do the job but one miracle happens, i sent an complain to Mr. Standley Wong at Clickers KL HQ and he called me and confirmed the ports availability. but he also said since we don't have phone line installed, TMnet cant do much cuz it's all between the management and telekom.


yea, think of EDGE b4, even thinking of using 3G ... too bad they are both not cheap and aren't practical in long term usage.
even phone line also they don let i dont think they would allow satelite dishes :-)

Hey , common..You should enjoy a good connection right..I am not telling you to steal bandwidth here....I suggest doing a port scan on their router or whatever they do , to see whats going on

I'm so pity on your case well that's student life dude if you concerned about bandwith move to rental house nearby maybe that makes a new solutions but no ports you hv to confirm with telekom first so sad for what happened. Life would be better when you working got a decent fastest broadband in Malaysia at the time you rule the bandwith u dream for.



Don't dream to p2p or bittorent on mobile phone 3G or Edge

just to clarify, i am agent of streamyx, and i know all the stuff about nuts and bolts. So stop pointing at agent. not all are 'useless'.

emerald park has its right not to allow their tenants to register for phone line. and what they mention is truth.

a true story that i heard of is, if you know where is desa setapak, previous tenant register a phone line there and owe 2000.00 ++++.. and didn't pay the bill, when the new tenant comes in, they are not allowed to apply for phone line because previous tenant got blacklisted. Telekom does not only blacklist the person but blacklist the address as well. pretty much you could not blame emerald park for this.

upgrading from 4mb to 6mb is a good idea, don't think of 0.256 > 0.384, it is not running that way. a 4MB and a 6MB line makes a lot of different.

Solution: stay outside and happily register streamyx.

else: get edge or 3g some sort. emerald park seems pretty 'un-organise'.

i used to stay in EP also, the internet and applications is under their rights i guess, u can always try checking the agreement and negotiate with them but do u think they will improve it? i don't think so coz there are still many students willing to stay there~

as for ports problem, TM is not always updating coz it costs a lot to install new ports and in certain areas, they are already port-blacklisted~

that's the point. they dominate the whole hostel business here that leaves us not much choices. And because of that, they just fo whatever they like as they'll have new batch of tenancy every half year due to new intake.

hmm...maybe can sue them under anti-trust case like how microsoft and intel kena due to their domination of hostel...LOL

EP never changes, back in my alpha year there was this guy who was a bandwidth stealer, he made his own PC become the gateway just to leech anime, how pathetic can that be ?
the complaints about slow bandwidth has been going on for years and nothing has changed so you might as well give up....

Take it from an ex-MMUian and a local resident of Bear Hill for 5 years. (I'm not there anymore of course).

Move out of EP. Staying in EP basically means you wouldn't have a single farty chance to go online. Come on now, it's really a lame excuse to say there aren't anywhere else to rent. Try harder then.

If you don't mind a 'lil distance do avoid the prime areas like Taman Bunga Raya or Dahlia. It's advisable to rent a house that allows you to install your own phone line (a totally new one) and Streamyx. Of course there would be the "no port" problem but the trick is to subscribe Streamyx thru private contractors instead of going to the Telekom office itself (I hope I don't get flamed for this...but based on personal experience). Private contractors will most probably always tell you "No no...there's ALWAYS port" hehe.

Bukit Beruang is frankly quite a bad area for a good Streamyx connection. But it depends from cases to cases. Try installing a totally new phone line pulled from the exchange post outside to your room for eg. I stayed in Tmn Bunga Raya (behind MMU carpark) for 5 years and we had Stimix as well. Normally managed around 405kbits/s (around 80% of a 512kbps line).

if the network is still un-secure and have an internet connection , you can pop-in and it will work . but if the owner decides to cut it off or secure it , you're pretty much dead

but i manage to survive coz my speed was quite fast oso....

fx_53_xt: ha ha. i am quite pity ur condition since i was in that situation before. but my suggest is that better to find a house to move out from that "refugee camp" (my roommate's father call EP as a refugee camp XP)

well, actually u REALLY can use bittorent in EP. But the main problem is the download speed is very very slow (less then 1kbps). Unless u really willing to spend a long long time to download a single file, or else u better ask ur friend to download it for u.

as for the wifi signal, if i'm not mistaken the nearest wifi station for MMU melaka is in the old-FOSEE lobby. So with that kind of distance (unless u are staying in the 4th staircase) i don't think is possible.

That's the main reason you don't see many Seniors staying in Emerald Park. I was once in your shoes. Moving out is the only practical solution.

Another solution use maxis 3G as seen in the news ads before. the only problem is coverge area and expensive
