FFXI... quite unpopular in m'sia... i know no one playing it :\

OT: try guildwars should be damn nice and no monthly fees

me from ffxi......can onli comment battle mode is really bored....
and need hours to get a party .....no solo at all after lvl 15 except u play beastmaster.
well anyway i played ffxi already 1 year
now waiting for guild wars

ffxi is a very quality game. from the installation n the setup u can alr feel the quality. it even has it's own game lobby [playonline]. the game itself... not really meant for leisure gaming lor. cos if u dun play for a day, u'll missed alot of things n u'll feel left behind. like potachan said, it's true that waiting for party is very boring n very fedup but it's very fun when u get into a party n whack monsters. hmmm... my opinion, ffxi has too many things to do to keep u occupied. the quests n missions r neverending.

i love to meet more m'sian ffxi players.

I think so. FFXI price keeps dropping every 6 months or so. Wonder if they'll drop it to US$9.99 later because they found it hard to compete with WOW and GW.

hmmm... i bought mine at softwar boutique @ ss2. ffxi + rise of zilart expansion pack : rm279 + chains of promathia expansion pack : rm179

so it's rm458... but i bought it las year. the price might had dropped now.

In terms of graphics, FFXI blows WoW away
Not even close, they have some badass graphics
In terms of gameplay, I'll side WoW
More lively, rather than FFXI which u have to wait forever to swing once (I was a drk, so...)
I played FFXI for a yr, got up to 67 and stopped
The game has a nice storyline, especially when u finish the Zilart part
But it just takes way too long to lvl, and forever to find a party
The word "solo" doesnt exist in the game, which is a part I hate
And the fact that they combined Japanese and English players on the same servers, which doesnt make any sense at all
So...I would say Square let us ( or just me ) down on this chapter
Better stick with WoW =P

well..I thinking of dropping my FFXI also since its like taking forever just to lvl up. I dont really have time just to spend on one game. So drop this one and still will stick with WoW and GW.

Waiting to form an XP party may be slow if you dun make friends, have a good linkshell, or have a good reputation. Getting into XP parties can be fast if you have many friends, have good reputaion, as in people know you are a good player. In fact another common way to get fast XP is to have a static XP PT, which means the same people meet to XP at schedules times so that u get formed up fast and everyone knows each others jobs and style. Static PTs are good for fast XP.

My linkshell is made of people from SG, Australia, HK, TW and a few from NA.

Just run about in Jeuno saying some local slangs and you will definitely find some kaki asking you if you are from SG or MY.

Or name character lenglui or chiobu and confirm some horny SG or MY lpayer wil /msg u.

Anyway, FFXI great game, super stable, no crashes, so well designed and built, well balanced, almost 0 bugs, EXTREMELY absorbing, and yeah still playing it with my kakis.

check my sig out... 2 years in this game and still going steady. No 75 jobs yet but close enough.. focusing a lot on Dynamis (alternate world) and Chains of Promathia missions ( darn good storyline ). Oh ya, I bought almost all the MMOs out there in the market and hell, I just wanna play FFXI in the end.

This game is so good it's screwing my life pretty bad too... my grades...
If you are just starting to look into this game, I suggest you start of with popular jobs like Red Mage Black Mage or White Mage. When you get advance jobs, go for jobs that's extremely popular like Bard Paladin or the extremely popular but really pricy jobs Ninja & Ranger. If you are thinking about being a melee such as Dark Knight Samurai or Dragoon, don't! You'll just complain about the waiting time for a party.

p/s: my only problem with FFXI is the abudance of chinese gil sellers. ><

lol...i was just there on a business trip. made a quick visit to their local EB Games store, saw FFXI at this ridiculously low price, then bought it. I was even tempted to get Star Wars Galaxies + all the expansion packs (including the new one, some Wookie expansion, which is not sold in Malaysia...yet), the whole pack, after conversion, was priced at around RM170. Damn cheap, but i realise i can't play them all, and SWG was not really my cup of tea. Plus, the games might be cheap, but the subscription fees are not. Anyways, MMORPGs are quite cheap over there, especially when they bundle it with expansion packs.

Maybe if i happen to be there for another business trip, i'll do a bulk then.

Star Wars Galaxies isnt really that bad..
In fact i kinda liked it while playing its trial

How do you find the game now?

Played a hume dark knight in the Pandemonium server - stopped for awhile (actually since Dec'04 lol) coz moved into a new house w/ no telephone line.

My thoughts on FFXI: it's a great game, if u have the time to invest into it. Used to spend 6-8hrs a day minimum, and to be honest, took away a big chunk of my social life lol. I think one of the earliest LYN member to play this game was Winternights (a lvl75 ninja btw) - already quit the game for WoW. Looking for party invites used to be a pain in a$$, especially when you're new to the game... cant really blame em cause some players that i've invited were really bad, didnt even know their job well... imagine inviting a THF to ur party who doesnt know how SATA works (Sneak attack+ trick attack) etc. Later i was lucky to have found a few players to stick to, and we formed a static, from LVL 65 all the way to 75. Some of em i still keep in touch, two were from China, one from Indonesia and another (WHM) is from Germany. From time to time, we'd go to SKY and level abit, or camp some NM (amemet... used to be good money till the gilsellers came)... havent got the chance to fight the bigger HNM but it was fun nonetheless... and my most memorable fights were against Serket, Roc, Tyrannic Tunnok and of course, Za 'Dha Adamantking in Qulun Dome.

Enjoyed every moment... but prepared to sacrifice lotsa time, into lvling up, making urself a better player, understanding ur job, farm farm farm for that expensive gear (how much are sniper rings, scorpion harness nowadays i wonder ), NM camping etc.

Btw, my main job was Dark Knight (DRK) 75, with a few other subjobs at lv37 at least (Warrior, Thief, Ninja). A lil advice to those who wanna go DRK fulltime, dont forget about lvling ur Great Sword skill, although a DRK weilding a big-a$$ scythe looks cool... later in the game when ur lv60+, ppl will be looking for a DRK that can do Spinning Slash, which can deal 1000+ dmg (highest for me was 1400+) with sneak attack-trick attack. Combine with a ninja blink tank and a ranger plus black mage.... you could do some huge damage performing the LVL3 light skillchain (cool effect!) w/ MB, with little downtime (with the aid of RDM or Bard... my favourite) to keep those experience chains comin'.

Hmm still haven't done anything with my box except read the manual...
Don't know to invest in this or swg...
