Conclusion: Belkin still have possibility to fail protect equipment although can be replace... although can replace but hassle... modem burnt is small issue, try to imagine surge bypass modem and burnt your whole computer units... the computer can RIP that time...

basically most surge protector have an MOV (metal oxide varistor) or a gas tube that act like an MOV, what this does is ground any extra voltage that exceed it's permitted voltage level to the nearest earth. But if the extra voltage is over the amount of "joules" that the MOV can handle, the MOV will either fail to work or dies with the surge protector, allowing the extra voltage to get into your system.

This is why most surge protector have a joule rating (e.g. 90 000 joules, 100 000 joules, etc).

A lightning isolator doesnt "hold" these voltages, whenever a lightning voltage that is above the safe level is detected by the isolator, it will immediately isolate and divert the voltage back to the nearest ground. It doesnt have a fuse to blow up and it doesnt cut off the voltage flow. It doesnt give the extra voltage A CHANCE to flow through AT ALL. Hence it's uber amazingness.

If there's a fuse or voltage cut off components, the voltage can still go through if it's big enough, and a lightning strike have HUGE amount of voltage, beyond anything that current surge protector can hold.

simpler explanation: What is the different between a bullet proof vest and Neo from the matrix.

1. A bullet proof vest "tank" the bullet, if bullet is anti kevlar or shot close to the target, it WILL punch through and kill you.

2. Neo dodge the bullet, the bullet never "touch" him. So it doesnt matter how big or how fast or how many bullets there are, it cant hurt him. Because he doesnt "tank" the bullet.
no, a lightning isolator is not the same as ELCB. An ELCB or RCD cut off the extra voltage when it's detected, kinda like a breaker. It doesnt isolate or divert the current. Lightning surge have been known to "jump" through the circuit breaker even after it's disconnected, meaning it can still get to you!!!!
btw, since it's introduction in 1996, CLLI lightning isolator have suffered ZERO, yes that's right, ZERO equipment damage. 11 years of 100% protection against surges. Provided that it's properly installed.

Someone should enter this into the Guinness book of record already.

im ex belkin user so far boomed my tv and modem once, although got warranty but it doesn't really does its function like a surge protector should do

YEah, SUpport Cal-lab product...
I bought one for my astro on recent CNY at RM 14X. XX, here cheap, I got Cheat by the astro man......

Anyway, planning to get some more to protect my 2 Desktop PC + 1 Laptop PC + 3 printer + 1 ADSL router + 1 phoneline.
Now waiting the Telco guys come to install the phone and Streamyx which I already applied for more than 1 months.......

i apologize to miliardo83 and CooBra that i cant COD to them ytday which i promised them...

because the HQ requested the office ytday to return the all of the SF9512-DSL stocks that available in storeroom, they need to modified the current SF9512-DSL to support the TMnet's higher boardband speed, they perhaps will launch the 2mbps speed or adsl2 connection soon.... in order to satisfy the cal-lab users and reduce the complaint, office forced to return stock and cant COD...

actually i can get the current SF9512-DSL for miliardo83 and CooBra ytday, but i hope wont get compaint from them and can get higher speed of broadband when using it, so i postponed the COD... hope they can like Cal-Lab products as well

The modified SF9512-DSL will be arrive the office when monday(17-04)... i will COD when monday... cheers...

Note: any1 purchase the SF9512-DSL from any outlets now, 99% was not the modified version... bcos the modified version will arrived on next mon to our office showroom

Excellent product. Bought it 2-3 years ago and it has never failed to protect my electronics (mainly pc, modem and some other stuff). What's more is that it is still working fine even after all the zapping from zeus.
